Description

March 4, 1969 M; k. G'REGSON GUN SLING Filed June 25, 1967 INVENTOR Mel VLTL R svegson 3,430,828 GUN SLING Melvin Ross Gregson, Box 837, Mill Road, Chapleau, Ontario, Canada Filed June 23, 1967, Ser. No. 648,499 US. Cl. 224-1 Int. Cl. F41c 33/00 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to new and useful improvements in gun slings and more particularly to a type of sling which greatly facilitates the carrying of firearms by hunters and which will reduce the number of accidents among hunters due to falls and fence climbing, etc.
The chief purpose of the invention is the provision of a gun support which is adjustable so that it can be worn over light or heavy clothing, will accommodate both right hand and left hand persons and which will support the weight of the gun.
The primary object of the invention is therefore the provision of a gun sling which will greatly facilitate carrying a gun through dense bush and reduce to a minimum the chances of accidents amongst hunters.
Another important object of the invention is the provision of a sling as set forth which facilitates the loading of a gun.
Still another object is the provision of a gun sling which can be used by both right hand and left hand hunters.
Other apparent objects are the provision of a sling which is strong and durable, dependable and etficient and of comparatively low manufacturing cost.
With these and other objects in view that may appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel arrangement of cooperating elements as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing forming part of this application and in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view of a hunter wearing a gun sling constructed in accordance with the present invention.
FIGURE 2 is a rear elevational view of the device.
Referring more in detail to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the both views, it will be seen the invention comprises a gun sling formed with a shoulder pad 5 and a strap and buckle 6, one extremity of said strap secured to one end of said pad and the opposite extremity of said strap secured to the other extremity of said pad. For ease of adjusting, it is to be understood that the buckle end of said strap is to be worn in the front. To prevent the pad from climbing and sliding off the wearer, a secited States Patent 0 i 3,430,828 Patented Mar. 4, 1969 0nd strap 7 has one of its extremities secured to the front end of the said shoulder pad and its opposite end to the rear portion of the first mentioned strap so that the second mentioned strap partly encircles the body of the wearer.
An auxiliary shoulder strap 5a is worn on the opposite. shoulder. A tying strap 5b secures said auxiliary shoulder strap to said pad 5 and is provided with a buckle. At the rear the auxiliary strap is also secured to said pad 5 in a permanent manner by retaining strap 50 which is provided with an elastic insert 5d to provide the adjustment and ease of movement which is required when wearing such a harness.
The invention also provides a butt case 8 provided with a D ring 9 on both the front and rear face of said case so that the device will accommodate a right hand and a left hand hunter.
The butt case is mounted at the rear extremity of the butt of a gun and is secured in position by means of a plurality of straps and buckles 10. To prevent hindering the user, the buckles should be worn away from the body. A ring and snap fastener 11 are threaded on the strap 6 and the snap fastener is attached to the D ring 9, as illustrated in the drawing.
It will be seen from FIGURE 1 how easy it is to load and carry the gun. At all times one hand is free to remove brush and twigs while walking through dense bush and brush.
It is believed that the construction and advantages have been fully set forth and that further description is not required.
While the preferred embodiment has been disclosed, it is to understood that minor modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and he scope of the claim.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows.
I claim:
1. A gun sling comprising a shoulder pad, a strap and buckle secured to said pad from which a gun is carried, a second strap having one of its extremities secured to said shoulder pad and its other extremity on the rear portion of said first mentioned strap to retain the device in position, an auxiliary shoulder strap, a retaining strap therefore having one of its ends secured to said auxiliary strap and its other end secured to said pad, a buckle to secure said ends together, a rear retaining strap, said rear strap provided with a resilient insert midway its extremities, a ring and snap fastener threaded to said first mentioned strap, a butt case provided with a plurality of straps and buckles adapted to be secured to the rear extremities of the butt of a gun and a D ring secured to both the front and the rear face of said butt case adapted to receive said snap fastener.
