Description

F 18.1969 .LW-YURKINAS 3, 3
SHOOTING GAME Filed May 5, 1965 'IIIII/lt'ffifii(11111111111155: 'I'IIIIA ATTORNEYS United States Patent 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A game board in combination with a dart, the game board including a plurality of recesses, the recesses being of varying sizes, a plurality of objects detachably fitted into the recesses, the objects detachable from the board under the weight of a dart attached thereto.
This invention relates to games. More particularly, this invention relates to a barne board for use in combination with darts.
Many types of games are presently in existence which utilize darts, either thrown or shot from guns. Such games have become especially popular in recent years with the advent of recreation rooms in homes. It is an object of this invention to provide a new game board for use in combination with darts.
A further object of htis invention is the provision of such a game board having objects detachably secured thereto in such a manner that when a dart strikes a particular object, aifixing itself thereto, the weight of the dart detaches the object exposing a number therebehind.
A further object of this invention is the provision of such a game board which is especially simple in construction and easily fabricated, at a low and competitive cost;
A still further object of this invention is the provision of such a game board which operates accurately and positively in its function.
These and further objects of this invent-ion will become apparent to those skilled in the relevant arts upon reading the following specification in conjunction with the drawing, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a front view of the game board embodying the teachings of this invent-ion, certain of the detachable objects removed therefrom to better show the invention; and
FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along the plane II-II, the game board shown in conjunction with a gun and dart in operation.
Briefly, this invention relates to a game board in combinat-ion with a dart, the game board including a plurality of recesses, the recesses being of varying sizes, with a plurality of objects detachably fitted into the recesses. The objects are detachable from the board under the weight of a dart attached thereto. Numbers of varying denomination are posted behind the objects, the numbers being proportionate to the size of the objects.
Referring more specifically to the drawing, the reference numeral 1 designates a game board embodying the teachings of this invention. The game board is preferably fabricated from a stiff paperboard and includes a plurality of recesses 2 therein. These recesses may be easily formed through attaching plural layers of paperboard together, the recesses 2 stamped in one layer thereof. In the embodiment shown, the recesses 2 are of varying size and shape and define animals of varying descriptions. A plurality of animals 3 are provided, the
3,428,320 Patented Feb. 18, 1969 animals 3 being of a size and configuration frictionally received within respective recesses 2 formed in the game board 1. Thus, the animals 3 are easily detachable from the game board 1, in this preferred embodiment the only connection thereto being frictional contact of the animals with the edges of the recesses. It should be under stood that the invention is in no way limited to animals fitting within the recesses, as objects of varying configurations could be utilized.
Within each recess a number N is posted. The smaller the size and configuration of the recess, the larger the number posted therein. Thus, the numbers N posted within the recesses vary inversely with the size of the recess.
A dart 5 is used in association with the game board 1 (FIG. 2). 'In the embodiment shown, the dart 5 is of the type including a suction head '6 and a shaft 7 adapted to be inserted into and shot from a gun 8 of conventional construction. Within the broadest aspects of this invention, it should be understood that the dart may be of a different type, for example the type thrown by hand.
In operation, the user stands a marked distance away from the game board 1 which is set in the position shown in FIG. 1. The gun 8 is aimed at a. particular animal 3. If the aim is accurate and the dart 5 strikes an animal 3, the suction head 6 affixes itself to the animal it strikes. Due to the ease of detachability of the animal 3, the weight of the dart will pull the particular animal 3 from the game board 1, as shown in phantom lines in FIG. 2. When the animal 3 is thus detached, a posted number is exposed. Since the numbers N posted are inversely proportinate to the size of the animal detached, shooting skill can determine the outcome of the game. When a game is completed, the animals 3 may be quickly and simply re-attached to the game board 1 by merely frictionally fitting them within the recesses 2.
It will be seen that this invention has provided a unique game board for use in combination with a dart. The
structure of the game board is simple, yet durable and functions elfectively in operation. While only one embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it may be possible to practice the invention through the utilization of certain other embodiments without departing from the spirit and scope thereof. Such other embodiments are to be included as part of this invention unless the following claims specifically state otherwise.
I claim:
1. A game board in combination with a dart, the game board including a plurality of recesses each having peripheral walls and a rear wall, said recesses being of varying sizes, a plurality of generally planar objects detachably fitted into and substantially filling said recesses and lightly frictionally held therein, said objects detachable from said recesses under the weight of the dart when attached thereto, and indic-ia means on said rear wall thereby hidden by said objects when in place (References on following page) References Cited UNITED STATES PATENTS Crandall 273102 5 Walter 273-102.1
