J. NAYLOR.
BLIND SLAT ADJUSTER.
nm w. I R I S w W m LY 1 f N n I F W e3 8 M Y H B e UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES NAYLOR, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
BLlND -SLAT ADJUSTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 342,124, dated May 18, 1886.
' Application filed March 512, 1886. Serial No. 196,104. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, J AMES NAYLOR, of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and Improved Slat-Adjuster for VVindow- Blinds, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a practical and convenient device for adjusting the slats to window-blinds to hold them at any desired angle when the blinds are closed; and the invention consists of the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in allthe figures.
Figure l is an inside sectional view of the lower part of a window casing and blinds, showing my invention applied to the blinds, the right-hand screw or worm shaft being removed to show the lifting device and the slot in the casing to receive it. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken on the line w w of Fig.1, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the lifting devices removed.
A represents the window-sill, and B the inside portion of the sill or a casing closed by the top piece or cover, 0. In the casing B and cover G are journaled the two screws or worm-shafts D, one for each blind E. The worms D are each provided at their upper ends, above the cover 0, with a knob, c, by which they may be conveniently turned to the 5 right or left, and 011 each worm is placed a lifting device, F, so that by turning the worms these may be raised or lowered for raising or lowering the slat-rods G, to which the slats g of the blinds are attached. The slat-rods G are kept in position in line with the lifters F by the sleeves H, secured to the window-blind. The lifters in this instance are each formed with an upright portion, f, top plate, f, and lower horizontal arm, f which is flattened 5 and formed with the threaded aperture f through which the screw or worm shaft passes, and the lifters in this instance are held in position for direct vertical movement by being placed in narrow cavities J, formed in the 50 window-sill. The lower ends of the shaft D are journaled upon stepblocks K, as shown clearly in the drawings.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 5 5 Patent- The screws D, fitted in the window-sill, in combination with the lifters F, arranged to be moved vertically by the screws into engage ment with the slat-rods G of the blinds, sub 60 stantiall y as and for the purposes set forth.
JAMES NAYLOR.
