FEED-TROUGH FOR POULTRY-COOPS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,211, dated May 4, 1886. Application filed November 14, 1885. Serial No. 182,887'. (No model.)

Be it known that I, JOSEPH O. BEAZLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Feed-Troughs for PoultryOoops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to improvements in feed-troughs for poultry-coops used for transporting all kinds of fowls to a distant market; and the object of the improvements is to furnish water and feed for them, so that they can drink and feed during their transit, thereby i5 keeping them in good condition, and also to provide a construction which will prevent the waste of food and water,all of which will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure I is a longitudinal vertical section of an ordinary wire coop having the improvements attached. Fig. II is a vertical section of Fig. I on line :v w. Fig. III is a plan view of the feed-trough and water-bottles. Fig. IV is a vertical section of Fig. I on line y y. Fig. Vis a vertical section of the waterbottle and elevation of the feed-trough enlarged. Fig. VI is a vertical section of Fig. V on line z z.

A represents an ordinary wire coop or basket, as represented in Fig. I. Next to one of the sides within the coop, some distance from the top, to permit the fowls to reach the water and food, the bottles B B', with the food` troughs C O attached, are secured by wires in such a manner asA to prevent them from being accidentally detached. The troughs O and O are constructed as shown in Figs. V 'and VI, having vertical sides and a bottom slightly dished to the middle, and the top opening flared downwardly to a narrow slit, c', which troughs are permanently fastened to their respective bottles B B at one end, the other end of each trough being open. One of the troughs, O, is a little larger, to permit the smaller one, O', to slide within it.

The bottles and troughs can be made of tin or other sheet metal, according to the sections 5o shown in the several figures, having the conielongated until the two bottles are placed in 6o the corners of the coop, where they are to be secured by wires or other effectual devices, and similar wires are to be passed around the ends and secured to the side of the coop. The troughs and bottles can by a reverse process be removed for cleansing.

It is well known to all parties engaged in shipment of poultry as heretofore practiced that uo secure and proper means have been adapted to water fowls when in transit;77 hence they are invariably in a distressed condition upon arrival at a market, and also in regard to the food furnished them. By dropping it into the basket a large quantity is Wasted. By these improvements the fowls have a secure and bountiful supply of food and water, and no turning over of the coop, should such an accident occur, can occasion a loss of either food or water, owing to the well-known efficacy of the form of the wa- 8o ter-bottle and trough, which form is not claimed by me, nor supplying food to fowls in transit; but

Vhat I do claim is- 1. In combination with a poultry-coop, the herein-described telescopic feed-troughs, each having an open top with downwardly-flared extensions throughout itsV length.

2. In coops for transportation of poultry, foodtroughs C and O', constructed to slide 9o one within the other, and having at one end of each, attached thereto, a water-bottle, substantially as and for the purpose described.
