0. S. WALIN.
EEEDEE FOR STOCK.
No. 364,557. V v P atente d June 7, 1887.
UNITED STATES PATENT OrE cE.
CLAES S. WVALIN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
FEEDER FOR STOCK.
" SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364,557, dated June 7, 1887.
- Application filed March 10, 1887. Serial No. 231,512. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OLAES S. WALIN, a citizen of. the United States, and-a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and Stateof Illinois, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Feeders for Stock; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved -fecder for stock with the cover removed. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same with the cover in place, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the cover inverted and removed from the feeder.
Like letters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the figures.
My invention has relation to feeders for stock, poultry, 80c. and it consists in the improved construction and combination of the parts of the same, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A denotes the feed-receptacle, having a conical bottom, B, provided with an upwardly-pro- 3c jecting flange, C. The lower part of the ta:
pering feedreceptacle has apertures D, for the purpose of admitting the feed to the trough E, and the outer side of said tapering feed-receptacle is provided with webs or partitions, F, which divide the trough into feed-stalls.
G denotes the device for regulating the flow of feed through the apertures D into the trough E. This device is in the nature of a movable band fitting the inside of the feed-receptac1e, and is provided with apertures H, registering .with the apertures in the feed-receptacle.
M denotes a cover having an inlet, N, in its top for the purpose of filling the trough with grain.
0 denotes the locking device, consisting of apiece of wire twisted at its middle to form the loop or handle P, the free ends projecting in opposite directions through the loops Q Q, and formed at their extremities with hooksR R.
V V are notches cut opposite to one another in the top edge of the feed-receptacle, to permit the lid to fit tightly on said fced-receptacle, and also'to permit of the movement of the locking device 0.
S S denote ears secured to the cover at right angles to the locking device, which fit inside of the feed-receptacle to hold it in place, thus working in conjunction with the locking device.
Two diametrically-oppos'ite webs or partitions of the feedtrough are provided with apertures 'I T, which receive the book ends of the locking device, and thus hold the cover firmly in place.
WVhen it is desired to remove the cover for the purpose of cleaning the feed-receptacle, or for any other purpose, the handle or loop 1 is turned, thus throwing the hook portion of the locking device out of engagement with the perforated webs or partitions. 7
By having the cover constructed of a greater circumference than the feed-trough rain will be excluded from the saidtrough, thus preventing damage to the food therein; and it will be seen that by having the food-receptacle above the water-receptacle ants and the like will be prevented from entering the foodstalls from the ground.
Having thus described myinvention, Iclaim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. In a device for feeding and watering stock, the combination of a tapering l'ecdreceptacle provided with a conical bottom, the lower part of said receptacle having apertures located therein, the outer side being provided with feed-stalls, and a water-receptacle arranged beneath the feed receptacle, with a feed-regulator consisting of a tapering annular band having apertures in its lower edge registering with the apertures in the side of the IOC feed-receptacle, and means, substantially as described, for adjusting the said regulator, and formed with hooks adapted to beattached substantially as setforth. to the said perforated Webs or partitions, as
