ORE ORUSHER. No. 340,472; Patented Apr. 20, .1886.
,, NITED STATES PATENT Fries.
ORE-CRUSHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 340.472, dated Apri120, 1886.
Application filed February 24, 1885 Serial No. 156,849. (No model.) Patented in England November 25, 1884, No. 15,521; in Germany February 1, 1885, No. 32,636; in France February 152, 1885, No. 166,996, and in Belgium February 14. 1885, No. 67,889.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS ARCHER, J r., engineer, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Dunston Engine Works, Gateshead-on-Tyne, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ore-Crushers, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent in the following countries, to wit: Great Britain, No. 15,521, dated November 25, 1884; France, No. 166,996, dated February 12,1885; Belgium, No. 67,889, dated February 14., 1885; Germany, No. 32,636, dated February 1, 1885,) of which the following isa full. clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to that class of orecrushers wherein a movable jaw is vibrated in proximity to a fixed jaw for the purpose of crushing the material fed between them, and in order that it may be fully understood it will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a sectional elevation of an orecrusher embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section thereof on the line A B, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the operating-cam, the end of the operating-lever,
and the anti-friction roller carried thereby.
O is the framing of the machine, which may.
be of any suitable character, and D the fixed 3o jaw supported thereby.
E is the movable jaw, which depends from an axis ortrunnions, e, supported by theframe G in such a manner that thesaid jaw E can be vibrated upon its said axis or trunnions. F is a lever by which this vibration is effected, said lever being fulcrumed at one end upon an axis, f, supported by the framing of the machine, and provided at the other with an antifriction roller, f which rests upon a cam or eccentric, G, carried by the main shaft H of the machine.
The cam G is shown in the drawings as being formed with two rises, so as to vibrate the lever F twice during each revolution of the shaft H; but this may be varied at will. For example, it may have only one rise, whereby the lever F will be vibrated once by each revolution of the shaft H; or it may have more than two, with a corresponding increase in the number of vibrations imparted to the lever F by each revolution of the shaft H.
Between the back of the movable jaw Eand the adjacent part of the lever F is interposed a toggle or thrust piece, I, said thrust-piece being situated nearer the lower extremity of thejaw E and somewhat above the center of oscillation of the lever F, whereby said jaw E is made to approach the fixed jaw D each time the free extremity of said lever F is elevated. The return movement of the jaw E is effected partly by gravity, but principally by spring is, which bears at one end against a fixed part of the frame 0 and at the other against a collar or cross head secured to a rod, j, whose extremity is connected to the rear side of said jaw. The tension of this spring may be regulated by a nut, Z, which is held to place by a lock-nut having a weighted handle, m, whereby it is prevented from turning off.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In a machine for crushing ores, the combination, with the frame 0, having the fixcd jaw D, of the movable jaw E, hinged at top, the vibrating lever F, fulcrumed at one end and provided with an anti-friction roller, f at the other, a thrust or toggle piece, I, interposed between the back of the movable jaw and the adjacent face of the lever Fabove itsfulcrum, the operating-shaft, H, having cam G, the rod j, and the spring It, all constructed and ar-' ranged to operate substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS ARCHER, JR.
