MACHINE FOR GRUSHING STONE, ORE, 8w. No. 530,295. Patented Dec. 4, .1894.

,rA'rns PATETSTT OTIS WILLIAMS, OF ST. JO HNSVILLE, NEYV YORK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 530,295, dated December 4, 1894. Application filed August 20, 1894- Serial No. 520,802. (No model.)
, To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTIS WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Johnsville, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Crushing Stone, Ore, or Analogous Material; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has reference to that class of machines for crushing stone, ore and analogous materials in which are employed a stationary jaw and a movable jaw with means for imparting thereto a reciprocating motion.
The invention has for its object to provide a simple and effective mechanism for driving this movable jaw whereby increased power is obtained and the crushing of the material between the stationary and movable jaws rendered more efficient and the boxes or bearings relieved of pressure or friction at the time of giving the blow with the movable jaw.
The invention consists in a machine constructed substantially as shown in the drawing and hereinafter described and claimed.
The accompanying drawing represents a side elevation of a machine constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the stationary and the movable jaws in section and also the toggle which connects the 'movable jaw with the lever.
A suitable frame A is provided which has affixed thereto in any suitable mannera stationary jaw B, and 0 represents the movable jaw which is loosely mounted upon a stationary shaft a to enable it to swing backward and forward. These jawsare provided with removable chilled facings or crushing blocks D of the usual construction, and the movable jaw is connected to the operating lever by means of the usual toggle E and steel steps or hearing plates 17. ,The jaw O and lever F are also connected by means of a screw bolt 0 extending through holes in depending plates d e upon the jaw and lever respectively, a gult f engaging the screw threaded end of the The lever F may be of any suitable form and construction and is mounted upon a sta tionary shaft g to enable it to swing thereon, and upon the rear end of the lever is suitably journaled an anti-friction roller G.
The lever F upon its upper side has lugs he, and to the lug h is pivoted one end ofan arm H, which arm at its free end is provided with an anti-friction roller I. Between the antifriction rollers G I is located an eccentric K upon a shaft is, which shaft has its bearings in the sides of the frame A, and upon one end of the shaft is a balance wheel L. A take-up bolt M is suitably connected to the logo and extendsup through the arm H, and a nut Z engages with the screw threaded end of the bolt, thereby enabling the anti-friction roller I to be adjusted to bring its bearing face in contact with the eccentric K and thus compensate for any wear thereon, this adjustment being attained by meansof the nutupon the screw threaded end of the bolt.
The lever F is preferably of the form shown and has a swinging motion when operated upon.
shaft is with its eccentric K is caused to retate and the eccentric will press down upon the anti-friction roller G and depress that end of the lever F. The lever being of triangular shape and journaled at the apex of two of its angles or nearly so, as the rear end of the lever'is depressed, the opposite end thereof will be forced forward and through its intermediate connections with the jaw C, will force it in a direction toward the stationary jaw B which will effectually crush any material that may be between the jaws, the jaw 0 receiving a continuous vibratory motion through the mechanism above described.
The rotary shaft may have any suitable bearings or journal boxes for supporting it at its ends, and by the employment of the antifriction rollers and eccentric a more perfect operation of the vibrating jaw is secured and the friction of the parts materially reduced and the weight of the parts utilized to assist the vibrating j awin its action upon the material to becrushed.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A mechanism for driving the movable jaw of a machine for crushing stone, ore and When the machine is put in motion, the v analogous material, consisting of apivoted lever, and anti-friction roller connected therewith, an arm pivotally connected to the lever, and anti-friction roller connected therewith, an arm pivotally connected to the lever, an anti-friction roller upon the end of the arm, means for adjusting the arm, and a rotary shaft provided with an eccentric which is located between the anti-friction rollers, said 10 eccentric being also located above the antifriction roller so as to depress the lever, substantially asand for the purpose set fiorth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence oftwo witnesses.
OTIS WILLI AMS.
