1 Claim. (Cl. 128-295) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device for the tapping of urine comprising a condom having a hose connected thereto by introducing a piece of tube from within through the bottom of the condom so that the bottom of the condom is first pushed into the hose and pierced so as to clamp a portion of the condom bottom between the outer surface of the piece of tube and the inner surface of the encasing piece of hose. An annular cushion of elastic and resilient material is disposed in the bottom of said condom having a central opening communicating with the piece of tube and filling out the lower part of the condom. An annular flange on the piece of tube holds the annular cushion in the lower part of the condom. The flange on insertion of the piece of tube into the hose to a suflicient extent is brought closer to the bottom of the condom than the thickness of the annular cushion to clamp the cushion between the under surface of the flange and the bottom of the condom, at the same time as the annular flange is positioned beneath the top surface of the annular cushion.
The present invention relates to a device for the tapping of urine and similar purposes, the device being of the kind to be applied on the penis to serve as connecting member for a hose or the like leading to a suitable collecting container, such as a flexible bag, for instance. Such devices are used in connection with certain urination troubles and also in connection with certain kinds of sexual diseases etc.
The devices of this kind as hitherto known are produced in such a way that one end of a rather short piece of hose is placed against the outer surface of the bottom of a condom, whereupon a short piece of tubing is introduced into the hose from within the condom in such a way that the bottom of the condom is first pulled into the hose and then pierced, and thereby a portion of the condom bottom is clamped between the exterior of the piece of tubing and the interior of the encasing hose. In this manner a connection between the condom and the hose is provided which is sufliciently tight and reliable for all practical purposes.
Previously known devices of this kind are, however, impaired by the serious drawback that the piece of hose which, for the purpose of being handled and connected to an extension hose and also to avoid flattening and thereby throttling, must be at least slightly less elastic than the condom and consequently also somewhat resistant to twisting. Particularly when used on persons who need not be in bed but are permitted to be up, and also when used on people who are in bed but are mobile, it happens of course that on bodily movement the piece of hose will be subjected to some rotation owing to its resistance to twisting. This rotation can only occur at the price of a corresponding twist at the end of the condom which consists of highly elastic and very thin material. As a result, the outlet opening is closed. Even in the case of a comparatively insignificant outward and lateral pull on the piece of hose a corresponding closing of the outlet may occur. Finally, it should be mentioned that the devices hitherto known have sometimes caused a certain irritation owing to the fact that the piece of hose has a rather small diameter so that an occurring pressure has been distributed over a rather small area.
The object of the present invention is to provide a device of the kind indicated in which the inconveniences mentioned are eliminated, and for this purpose the device according to the invention is essentially characterized in that an annular cushion or pad of elastic material, such as foam plastic, for instance, is disposed in the bottom of the condom, said cushion having a central opening in communication with the piece of tubing and filling out the lower part of the condom.
According to the invention, it is convenient that for the purpose of holding the annular cushion in the lower part of the condom, the piece of tubing has an annular flange, and by inserting the piece of tubing into the hose sufficiently far said flange may be brought closer to the condom bottom than corresponds to the thickness of the annular cushion so as to clamp the cushion between the under surface of the flange and the bottom of the condom, at the same time as the annular flange is kept down below the top surface of the annular cushion.
The invention will be described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows an embodiment selected as example.
The shown device for the tapping of urine and similar purposes consists of a condom 10 shown in a slightly rolled-up condition. A piece of hose 11 of rubber or plastic is connected to the bottom of the condom 10 and adapted to be connected to a suitable extension hose leading to a collecting container, such as a flexible bag having a non-return valve.
The communication between the condom 10 and the piece of hose 11 has been effected in the known way by inserting a piece of tubing 12 from within the condom through the bottom thereof and into the piece of hose 11, a portion 13 of the condom bottom having been pulled in between the outer surface of the tubing 12 and the inner surface of the hose 11 until the condom bottom has been pierced and the portion 13 has been satisfactorily clamped between said two parts.
An annular cushion 14 consisting of a very elastic and resilient material, such as foam plastic or the like, for instance, is disposed in the bottom of the condom. The annular cushion 14 fills out the bottom of the condom, except for the central opening, of course, and thereby effectively prevents the occurrence of twisting phenomena and the like which might otherwise cause a throttling or complete closing of the outlet. The cushion 14 may be secured to the condom in any suitable manner, but in the preferred case shown the cushion 14 is secured by designing the tubing 12 with an annular flange 15 which keeps the cushion clamped to the adjacent end of the piece of hose 11. Conveniently the tubing 12 is introduced into the hose 11 to such an extent that the flange 15 will lie slightly deeper than the upper surface of the annular cushion 14.
Finally, it should be mentioned that certain dimensions have been exaggerated in the drawing for purposes of clarity and it should also be pointed out that the invention is not limited to the embodiment shown and described as a number of modifications and alterations of details are possible within the scope of the inventive idea.
What we claim is:
1. A device for the tapping of urine and similar purposes comprising a condom, a hose connected to said condom by introducing a piece of tube from within through the bottom of the condom so that the bottom of the condom is first pushed into said hose and pierced so as to clamp a portion of the condom bottom between the outer surface of the piece of tube and the inner surface of the encasing piece of hose, an annular cushion of elastic and resilient material disposed in the bottom of said condom, said cushion having a central opening communicating with said piece of tube and filling out the lower part of said condom, an annular flange on said piece of tube to hold said annular cushion in the lower part of said condom, said flange on insertion of said piece of tube into said hose to a sufiicient extent being brought closer to the bottom of said condom than the thickness of said annular cushion to clamp said cushion between the under surface of said flange and the bottom of said condom, at the same time as said annular flange is positioned beneath the top surface of said annular cushion.
