D. L. LUDDINGTON.
STOVE DOOR.
Patented Apr. '6, 1886.
3 WIT-K3848 @ZQAM UNITED STATES PATENT DANIEL LEXVIS ILUDDINGTON, OF GRASS VALLEY, CALIFORNIA.
STOVE-DOOR.
IPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 339,309, dated April 6, 1886.
Applirntion filed September-16, 1885. Serial No. 177,240. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL LEWIS LUD- DINGTOX, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grass Valley, in the county of Nevada and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove- Doors; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appcrtains tO'ma-ke and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and fig ures of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification.
Thisinvention has relation to improvements in doors for ovens of stoves, ranges, &c.; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the same, all as will be hereinafter fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my inventiomin which Figure 1 is a front view of my device. Fig. 2 is avertical section. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view, of the cap.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the ovendoonhaving the usual hinges, a, and knob b. This door consists of a frame composed of sides a and a bottom, d, while the top is left free. These parts and (Z are provided with grooves e, in which is arranged a glass plate, f, that serves as a window, through which can be seen the meats, -&c., within the oven, withoutopening the oven-door. This glass plate slides in the grooves of the door-frame, and is removable therefrom at will, and, if broken, can be read ily replaced by another. On the top of the door-frame is a cap plate, 5 which is grooved, as at h, to fit snugly over the top of said frame, and is closed at its ends to prevent endwise movement of the same. A perforation, t, is made through the door-frame, in order to permit a rod to be passed into the oven for changing the position of the articles contained therein without opening the door for that purpose. It will be seen that the cap is removable, and when it is necessary to remove the glass the same can be readily accomplished and a new glass inserted.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The herein-described door for ovens, consisting of the frame provided with the grooves, adapted to receive the glass plate, the capplate having the longitudi nal groove and closed ends, and rem ovahl y applied to the frame, subsia-ntially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DANIEL LEWIS LUDDINGTON.
