Rosenberg, Jonkoping, Sweden, assignors to Alrtiebolaget Svenslra Flaktfabrilren, Stockholm, Sweden Filed July 11, 1966, Ser. No. 564,230 Claims priority, application Sweden, July 12, 1965, 9,148/65 4 Claims. (Ci. 98-41) ABSTRACT 0F THE DISCLGSURE Apparatus for injecting ventilating air into premises including a rectangular box having upstanding side and end walls and a bottom wall, the side walls being spaced apart between 17 and 21 mm. The ventilating air enters the box for injection into the premises, adjacent the bottom Wall of the box through one of the side walls. At the upper end of the box is a laterally extending damper which is hingedly mounted on one of the side walls and which forms, with the other side wall, a slot of variable width. Regulating means, connected to the damper permit selective variation of the slot Width.
The present invention relates to a device connected to a ventilating system for the injection of ventilating air in premises, especially behind radiators. v
In order that the sound which arises when ventilating air is injected into premises shall cause as little disturbance as possible, it is known to provide the injection aperture with nozzles which impart to the outflowing air a flow as completely laminar as possible. By, for example arranging rows of nozzles transversely across a slot relatively good results have earlier been attained.
The present invention offers a simpler and better solution of the problems which are connected with the design of a ventilating air injecting device. By placing the duct connection to the injecting device under the floor, the device will take up a minimum of space and not to any extent worth mentioning encroach upon the space in the premises.
The invention is characterized in that the injecting device consists of a rectangular box open at the top, at the first side wall of which a movable damper is hingedly mounted along the edge facing said open top for the purpose of forming with the second opposing side wall an outflow slot of variable width, whereat the fixed distance between the walls referred to lies Within the range 17 to 21 mm., and that the connecting duct is arranged in such a way as to open into said first side wall immediately adjacent to the bottom of the box.
A further embodiment is characterized in that said second side wall is arranged parallel with and immediately adjacent to a wall in the premises, and that the Width of the outflow slot may be varied by the aid of a regulating means actuating said damper.
Other objects and a fuller understanding of the present invention may be had by referring to the following specification and claims taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing in which:
FIG. 1 is a fragmentary sectional side elevational view of the injecting device; and
FIG. 2 is a plan view of the device shown in FIG. 1 and as if FIG. 1 were not in section.
Referring now to the drawing, the injecting device of the present invention comprises a rectangular box 2 having laterally spaced, upstanding first and second side walls 3,389,648 Patented June 25, 1968 4 and 3 respectively, joined to upstanding and laterally spaced end walls 8 and 9. A bottom wall 6 closes the lower portion of the box and is connected to the side and end walls.
The second side wall 3, opposite the inlet of the duct 1, is arranged parallel and immediately adjacent to a wall 10 in the premises. On the same side as the connecting duct the side wall 4 is at its upper edge provided with a hingedly mounted, laterally extending damper to form, with the second side wall an outflow slot of variable width. The width of the outflow slot can be varied by the aid of regulating means, in the present instance comprising a screw 7, which actuates the damper 5. The distance between the side walls 3 and 4 has been chosen to lie within the range 17 to 24 mm. As set forth above, and as shown in FIG. 1, the box 2 extends through the floor 11, the duct 1 being connected beneath the floor to the box 2.
Thus although the invention has been described with a certain degree of particularity, it should be understood that the present disclosure is only exemplary of the invention, and that numerous changes in the details of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. Apparatus for injecting ventilating air into premises, said apparatus comprising an open-top rectangular box having laterally spaced upstanding first and second side walls joined to upstanding and laterally spaced end walls, a bottom wall connected to said side and end Walls, and means in one of said side walls adjacent said bottom Wall for injecting ventilating air into said box, said side walls being spaced one from the other a distance between 17 and 21 millimeters; a laterally extending damper spaced from said bottom Wall and hingedly connected to said first side wall to form, with the second of said side walls, an outflow slot of variable width, said second wall being planar from said bottom wall to said open top and terminating in said outflow slot whereby the injected air is discharged upwardly therethrough substantially coplanar with said second wall.
2. Apparatus in accordance with claim 1 wherein said box is adapted for placement with the second wall thereof adjacent the wall of said premises, and including regulating means connected to said damper to vary the width of said slot.
'3. Apparatus in accordance with claim 1 wherein said box is positioned along one wall of a premises and extends through a floor, said means for providing ventilating air being connected beneath said floor to said box.
4. Apparatus in accordance with claim 1 wherein said first wall is planar from said bottom wall to said hingedly connected damper and terminates in said connection, said damper extending upwardly therefrom towards said second planar Wall.
