Description
May 7, 1968 G. F. PFORR 3,
PORTABLE UTILITY CHAIR Filed Oct. 7. 1966 IN V EN TOR.
Georye F. Pforr United States Patent 3,381,635 PORTABLE UTILITY CHAIR George F. Pforr, 3502 Brookside Drive, Rapid City, S. Dak. 57701 Filed Oct. 7, 1966, Ser. No. 585,051 1 Claim. (Cl. 108-150) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A conveniently portable chair for use by fishermen or spectators at a game, the chair including a'base screw threaded to a stand having a hinged seat secured to the upper end, the under side of the seat being provided with eyelets to which opposite ends of a strap may be secured to allow convenient transportation thereof over a persons shoulder.
This invention relates to seating devices, and more particularly a portable utility chair.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a utility chair which is of lightweight construction, is easily and conveniently carried by a person without utilizing an appreciable amount of space.
Another object of this invention is to provide a chair which is designed to facilitate carrying thereof.
Another object of this invention is to provide a utility chair which is designed to be used at fishing and camping grounds, ball games, race tracks, etc.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a utility chair which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture, may be mass produced, may be reasonably priced, safe to use, is provided with a carrying strap, preferably made of lightweight aluminum material, and provides maximum utility to an outdoor man.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a top plan view of this invention.
FIGURE 2 shows the chair in elevation as viewed from the front or bottom of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 3 is a view from the right side of FIGURE 2 but with the seat in a raised position.
FIGURE 4 is a top view of FIGURE 2.
FIGURE 5 is a transverse sectional view taken along the lines 5-5 of FIGURE 2.
According to this invention, a utility chair includes a substantially circular. base 11, a cylindrical member 13 is secured on the center portion of base 11 and supported by a plurality of uniformly disposed reinforcing ribs 12. A hollow cylindrical stand 14 is removably secured up to base 1 1 by means of its threaded portion 14' which is received within the upwardly disposed cylindrical member 13. The top portion of the cylindrical stand is provided with a hinge member 15 which pivotally secures said stand to the bottom portion of seat which assumes a substantially rectangular plate-like configuration.
Looking now at FIGURES 3 and 4, one will see that the aforesaid seat 16 may be suitably tilted or pivoted so that it assumes parallel relationship with the top portion of stand 14. In order to facilitate easy carrying of chair 10, the bottom portion thereof is provided with a pair of widely spaced eyelets 17 which are designed received rings 18 for inserting the end portions of a releasable belt or shoulder strap 19.
It will also be noted that, in operation, a person, such as, a hunter, fisherman, race track fan, or the like, may suitably and conveniently carry said utility chair 10 just by putting the shoulder strap 19 over his shoulder. This will pivot or tilt seat 16 into a vertical position. This arrangement does not in any way interfere with the movements of the person carrying chair 10. Furthermore, if it is desired to disclose chair 10 at an angle, the cylindrical member 13 and base 11 may be conveniently and easily unscrewed from the bottom portion of stand 14.
Thus in summary, there has been provided a novel portable utility chair having a removable base from the lower end of a stand which has a pivotably secured seat upon the upper end thereof, the seat having eyelets upon its underside to which opposite ends of a strap are secured so that the same may be conveniently carried over a persons shoulder.
What I now claim is:
1. A portable utility chair, comprising in combination, a base means, a cylindrical stand, said cylindrical stand being removably supported on said base means, a rectangular seat member pivotally secured to the top portion of said stand, cushion means secured over the bottom portion of said seat member, and a shoulder strap releasably affixed to a pair of rings secured to a pair of eyelets rigidly mounted in spaced apart relation to the underside of said bottom portion of said seat member so to facilitate carrying of said utility chair by a person when said shoulder strap is disposed over the shoulder of said person, said base means including a circular base plate secured to the center portion of said base member and a plurality of uniform-ally spaced re-enforcing ribs secured to the periphery and the top portion of said base member, the bottom portion of said cylindrical stand being provided with threads for removably receiving said stand therein, and a hinge being secured between the top portion of said stand and the bottom portion of said seat member for positioning said seat member selectively between a horizontal and a vertical position.
