No. 620,499 Claims priority, application Italy, Mar. 3, 19615, 762,623 6 Claims. (Cl. 222231) ABSTRACT 0F THE DXSCLOSURE A mixing-dosing-distributing device for abrasive stufis suspended in water comprising a vertical disc partially submerged in the suspension and rotating so that the abrasive stuff is transported by the disc to a height above the suspension where a spatula is provided to scrape the abrasive stuff off the disc and direct it to a distribution zone.
This invention concerns; a mixer-dosimeter-dispenser for abrasives and like, specially for lapping machines and like.
It is well known that in machines using abrasive materials mixed with liquids, there is the absolute need of ensuring that said abrasive be dispensed in a continuous and constant way, with a maximum of reliability as well as under the provision of a wide quantitative control.
On the contrary the situation is that mixers-dosimeters now in use do not include any system suitable for obtaining the typical guarantees for constance and continuity now referred to.
in some of the more known types the substance being in suspension into the liquid is made to pass through regulatable slits, but in a short time the passage is obstructed owing to bunching of said substance, with ensuing difiiculties concerning the evenness of operation for the machine to be fed. Said diificulties, i.e. unevenness and discontinuity of feed, are particularly objectionable for lapping machines.
It is the main object of this invention to obviate the above referred to difiiculty, through the adoption of a mixer-dosimeter-dispenser of abrasives mixed with liquids, for lapping machines and like, which may ensure the evenness and precise dosage of the abrasive material, the whole through simple and economical ways, which may also be easily controlled in operation.
These and other objects are obtained through the mixer-dosimeter-dispenser devised according to this invention, belonging to the type including a tank for receiving the abrasive in a liquid medium, and a stirrer, for instance of the paddle type, which is characterized in that it includes a dipping element, for instance a rotatable disc, set along a vertical plane, which emerges topwise from the surface of the liquid-abrasive mixture, at least one scraping spatule, suitable to be brought into contact with the upper portion of said disc, and one or more canals which gather the material being scraped upon the dipping element (disc) of the spatule and apportion the same to the machine in operation, such as a lapper or like.
Another feature of this invention lies in the special embodiment for the motions transmission: one motor sets in rotations the paddle stirrer, or other, suitable device, providing a horizontal motion, and the extension topwise of the shaft of said stirrer transmits on its turn, by friction, the motion to the vertical carrier-disc. It may also happen that disc be driving and the central stirrers shaft be driven.
It must be also added that spatule, or spatules, may be 3,3?934'? Patented Apr. 23, 1968 oriented, so as to obtain, through their different contact position upon the dipping element, for instance a rotating disc, the control of quantity of abrasive to be distributed to the machine.
The invention shall now be better described with reference to an embodiment, being given only as a qualitative and not limitative example, and as shown in the enclosed drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 shows schematically, in a vertical section, the dosimetendispenser devised according to this invention; and
FIG. 2 shows schematically as well the dosimeter-dispenser as seen from its top.
With reference to the enclosed drawing, with 1 is shown the tank containing the abrasive substance, in suspension into the liquid 2, and with 3 the paddle stirrer or any other suitable system, which rotates horizontally slightly above the bottom la of tank 1. A vertical shaft 4, which passes through the bottom in and carries at its end a pulley 5 which receives the motion from an engine (not shown) through a belt 6. Shaft 4 extends topwise within the tank 1 and is fixed to a drum '1' which has, at a given height, an annular enlargement 7a. The stirrer 3 is driven by the drum 7.
According to the invention there is provided within the tank 1, a disc 8, vertically placed and being idle, with its hub 8:: around pivot pin 9 (FIG. 2), which is made fast to a side part of tank 1. Disc 8 has its fore surface (shown in FIG. 1) in contact with annular enlargement 7a, so that, when stirrer 3 is in motion, for instance as shown with arrow f (FlG. 2), also drum 7 and enlargement 7a rotate along the arrow f (FIG. 1), and therefore, by friction disc 8 may rotate along arrow i (H6. 1). As this disc 8 emerges for a good part from the surface 2a of the liquid containing the abrasive, in its rotation it will carry upwise a film of the said liquid, and therefore a certain amount, being constant and even, of abrasive.
Adjacent the upper part of disc 8 there is provided at least one spatule 1 which scrapes the carried mixture and makes it fall upon a gathering rod 11 of circular section, so as to offer to the emery a circular surface which may not form deposits. From this rod 11 abrasive passes into a small canal 12, upon the middle plane of which there is placed a second collecting rod 13, which dispenses it dropwise to the operating machine (not shown in the drawing).
According to this invention, the disposition and/ or the position of spatule lit with reference to disc 8, may be varied, so as to occupy upon the same respectively a circular crown of different width, or to be at a different distance from the center of the disc itself. in this way one may change in a. very simple way the quantity of abrasive being dispensed by the dosimeter.
This may be obtained by operating upon the support 14 of said spatule, which is rocking'ly adjustable in the said Ways, upon a pivot 15', for instance through a knob 16, that turns a worm and worm gear.
Another possibility of regulation for the dosing of abrasive is to be obtained through the variation of the rotation, speed of disc 3. To this end one may provide a kinematic coupling through a pair of gears (not shown), between the driving shaft 4 and the drum 7, in order to obtain a difierent speed of the drum, and therefore of the disc 8, being the same the rotation speed of stirrer 3.
Although only one embodiment has been described for the invention, devised according to these concepts, it is clear that in practice many more may be suggested, always based upon the main concepts now referred to, which define the invention, without leaving the law-full protection of the invention itself.
