Description

March 1968 A. SCHLECHTER 3,374,563
ELECTRIC IRON Filed Jan. 50, 1967 IN V EN TOR.
United States Patent 3,374,563 ELECTRIC IRON Anton Schlechter, Box 122, Aylesbury, Saskatchewan, Canada Filed Jan. 30, 1967, Ser. No. 612,713 4 Claims. (Cl. 38-74) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electric iron having a lint disposing means secured therein, and an electric motor for creating a vacuum to operate the lint disposing means. Included in the sole plot of the iron are uniformly placed perforations for passing the lint.
This invention relates to pressing devices, and more particularly to a vacuum attachment for steam or dry 1IOI1S.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a vacuum attachment adapted to be used with an electric iron which carries its own supply of water for the purpose of dampening cloth-like materials before ironmg.
Another object of this invention is to provide a vacuum attachment which is adapted to pick up lint when ironing certain types of material.
Another object of this invention is to provide a vacuum attachment which in addition of removing lint, materially reduces the amount of time necessary to iron a particular garment.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a vacuum attachment which is reasonably priced, safe to use, having controlled means for regulating the supply of steam, and provides maximum utility to its user.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view showing the main embodiment of this invention;
FIGURE 2 is a rear end view of FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 is a front elevation of FIGURE 1.
According to this invention, an electric steam iron with a vacuum attachment is provided with a bottom or sole plate 11. The front end of the plate 11 includes a plurality of uniformly spaced apart perforations 12 for the purpose of picking up lint from the garment (not shown).
The rear end of plate 11 is also provided with a plurality of perforations 13 which are arranged to serve a 3,374,563 Patented Mar. 2 6, 1968 substantially identical purpose as the perforations as said front end, lint intake, a casing 14 is secured on plate 11 in a known manner. Each side of casing 14 is provided with tubing 15 which is a lint intake from perforations 12, and the ditto marks on the rear of FIGURE 1 is the lint tubing intake from perforations 13. The top portion of a handle member 17 is provided with a switch 18 for the purpose of starting or stopping the vacuum motor. The handle member 17 is secured to the top portion of casing 14. Member 17 at its rear end is provided with a removable cover member 22 and an enclosure (not shown) for receiving lint from tubing 15. A rotatable switching device 16 is supported on the top portion of casing 14 for activating electric iron selectively, that is, providing a choice of dry ironing or steam ironing of the garments. In addition, the top portion of handle member 17 is provided with a switch 18 for star-ting and stopping vacuum. Handle 17 also supports the electric cord and plug 19 and 20 needed for providing electrical current supply to the iron 10. Furthermore, a steam control knob is provided at the front portion of handle member. Knob 21 regulates the variations in steam flow through the perforations.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, I do not desire to be limited to all the particular details illustrated and described; but what changes and modifications that are made should be within the spirit and scope of this invention.
What I now claim is:
1. An electric iron comprising, in combination, a bottom plate having a plurality of perforations, a casing suitably supported on said plate, handle member secured to said casing, lint disposing means secured within said handle and including a lint vacuum motor, switch means on said motor for starting and stopping the same, a uniformly perforated plate secured to the bottom portion of said casing for picking up lint from the material, tubing means on each side of said casing for removal of lint from said perforations of said plate, and power supply means within said handle.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said bottom plate being provided with a plurality of slots which correspond with said perforations.
3. The combination according to claim 2, wherein said lint disposing means include a casing secured on each side of said casing and communicate with said enclosure of said handle and the perforation of said plate.
4. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said power supply means include an electric cord with a plug.
