BELT FOR TROUSER 5 Filed Jan. 18, 1967 INVENTOR.
MAURICE ALLAIN BY flaw WM ATTORNEYS United States Patent ()fiice 3,371,351 Patented Mar. 5, 1968 3,371,351 BELT FGR TROUSERS Maurice Allain, 11 Blain St., Acushnet, Mass. @2743 Filed Jan. 18, 1967, Ser. No. 610,078 4 Claims. (Cl. 2--338) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A belt comprising two sections with a rope of substantial length connecting the ends of the two sections around the back of the body to provide a storage for an extended length of rope which may be detached for some additional usage. The two sections are detachably connected in the front in any conventional manner.
Background of the invention Belts for supporting trousers are usually of a length just sufiicient to go about the waist of the wearer. In some cases there is some sort of a takeup means for size adjustment, but I am aware of no construction that provides an extended length of cord, such for example as over 25 or 30 feet, which may be detached from the belt and serve for various uses such as may occur in many sports, such as hunting, boating or the like.
Summary Many times a hunter needs a length of rope for handling game which he has obtained. Such a rope is provided in a belt by providing short sections of a belt of usual construction and connecting these sections by continuous length of rope or cord laced back and forth be tween eyelets or openings in the sections, thus providing the necessary length which may be desired under different circumstances. When such rope is removed, an additional length may connect the two belt sections together so that the belt still may be worn while the rope is being utilized for another use.
Descriptions of the drawings FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the belt incorporating this invention;
FIG. 2 is a diagrammatic view illustrating the manner of lacing the rope back and forth between the openings which are provided in the belt sections; and
FIG. 3 is a showing of one means of enlarging one end.
Description of the preferred embodiments With reference to the drawings, there are two sections and 11 provided of leather or other suitable belting material. The section 11 is provided with a buckle 12 having a tongue 13, while the section 10 is of a size which may be threaded through the buckle 12 with the tongue 13 of the buckle passing through any one of the selected openings 14 depending upon the encircling size which is desired for holding the trousers in position. Other convenient means may be used for detachably connecting these front ends of the sections together.
The section 10 is provided with a plurality of openings or eyelets 15 which are here shown in two rows 16 and 17 extending laterally across the leather belt. The row 16 is staggered with reference to the row 17 as the two rows are shown. Similarly, there are openings or eyelets 18 in the end of section 11 in two rows 19 and 20 with the openings in row 19 staggered with reference to the openings in row 20.
A cord may start in opening 21 in row 19 and extend around through opening 22 in row 16, then back to opening 23 in row 19 and then back to opening 24 in row 17 and so forth back and forth between the openings in the different rows picking first an opening in one row and then an opening in the next row which is staggered in relation thereto. The lacing arrangement is shown more or less diagrammatically in FIG. 2 where the cord designated as 39 is shown in an expanded relation to indicate the back and forth arrangement of the stretches of cord to provide the extended length of cord between the two sections. The cord may be of any suitable material. A convenient material is braided nylon which may be fused to enlarge an end as at 31 so as to hold the cord from being drawn through the eyelet. Both the start and finish ends may be enlarged in this manner.
In some cases it may be desirable to connect the sections together by a second cord which is designated as 35 and which is attached between the two center openings 36 and 37 in the two belt sections so that when the cord 30 is removed, the two belt sections will still be connected together by the shorter cord 35 and the belt may still be worn for supporting the trousers. In this case the shorter cord may be of elastic for varying its length.
Bands which may be of a removable adhesive tape may be placed about the different stretches of cord as they extend back and forth between the eyelets so as to hold the stretches of cord in the desired assembled relation making a rather flat belt for engagement with the trousers.
For use it is merely necessary to sever the enlargement 31 from the end of the cord and unlace the cord 30 from the belt and put the cord to a different use. The second cord may then take the load of the belt until the cord 30 is returned to the belt. In this way a convenient and useful storage for a cord of substantial length is afforded.
I claim:
1. A belt for trousers comprising a pair of end belt sections, said sections having means at one end to detachably secure their ends together, said sections each having at their other ends a plurality of openings spaced laterally across the belt sections, a cord securing the said other ends of the sections together by lacing back and forth through the openings in said section as a continuous length and comprising the major portion of the belt length between said end sections whereby said cord may be unlaced from said sections to serve an additional use.
2. A belt for trousers as in claim 1 wherein said openings are in a plurality of rows with the openings in one row staggered with relation to the openings in the next row.
3. A belt for trousers as in claim 1 wherein bands hold the portions of the cord between sections in generally parallel relation.
4. A belt for trousers as in claim 1 wherein a second additional shorter cord is secured to and extends between said sections to hold them attached when the first said cord is removed from position.
