COMBINED FISH-NET AND UNIBRELLA.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 335,433l dated February 2, 1886.

Be it known that I, EMORY Q. DAER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shelbyville, in the county of Shelby and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin a Combined Fish-Net and Umbrella; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being` had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to a combined fishnet and umbrella; and it consists in a device .so constructed as to serve the double function of an umbrella to shield the person from the sun and storm, and a net which may be used for various purposes in fishing, the object being to provide a neat and compendious arrangement for fishermen, which may combine in one article two very necessary constituents of his outfit-viz., an umbrella and a net.

In the annexed drawings, illustrating my invention,Figu1e lis a vertical section through my improved fish-net and umbrella, showing the arrangement of the fish-net on the interior, and the umbrella-cover on the outside of the device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my fish-net alone with the umbrella-cover removed; and Fig. 3 is a partial representa` tion of the umbrella-cover and the Iish-net, showing the mode of attaching the two to the extremity of one of the ribs of the device.

Reference to Fig. l of the drawings will show the general plan upon which my device is preferably constructed. Any suitable and ordinary frame-work of ribs and braces clustering around a central handle after the usual fashion of umbrella construction is employed in my device. Upon this frame work is stretched a net, which is secured thereto in any suitable manner, as in the drawings it is seen to be attached at the end of the central rod or handle, G, as well as at the extremity of each rib D. placed the umbrella-cover, which is fastened to the device by having a central aperture, which allows it to slip over the end of the handle C in like manner with the ish-net; and it is also provided with eyelet-holes,tubes, or other suitable appliances, so situated that the end of one of the ribs may pass through or be attached to each of them. A screwcap, E, or other fastening is provided for fastening over the end of the rod C to hold the umbrella-cover and fish-net firmly in place. It will thus be seen that the covering which forms the umbrella, and which for this reason is made of some material impermeable by moisture, is readily detachable from the frame, as all that is necessary is to remove the cap E, and then slip the cover 0H the ends of the ribs.

The combined fish-net and umbrella thus constructed is adapted for all the various uses for which the articles might be adapted singly. Thus when the umbrella-cover is in place we have a perfect umbrella which will shade a person from the sun or protect him from the storm. The net-work being stretched over the ribs, as it is, does not injure the um brella character of the article, but is rather an aid thereto, since it strengthens it andrenders it able to oppose a strong wind. Vhen the umbrella-cover is removed, however, a perfect fish-net is in readiness for use; and this fish-net being fastened to an umbrella frame-work may be open to a greater or less angle, as desired, and fitted accordingly to the various kinds of work which the net will be compelled to perform. In this condition a rod, F, may be attached to the end of the handle C, so that the net may be lowered into the water more conveniently than were it to be manipulated by the said handle alone.

When the umbrella and fish-net are combined and folded,the two articles are in a convenient package for carrying.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desirevto secure by Letters Patent, is#

l. A tish-net consisting of an ordinary umbrella-frame having the netting secured thereon, and adapted to be opened and closed like an umbrella, substantially as shown and d escribed.

2. A sh-net'consisting of an ordinary umbrella-frame, upon which the netting is se- 5 cured, in combination With a pole, F, by
