Description
J. C. LOVE MULTI-USE APPLIGATOR Filed Sept. 6, 1966 INVENTORQ Jefferson C. Lore Nov. 21, 1967 m I I United States Patent 3,353,721 MULTI-USE APPLICATOR Jefferson C. Love, 130 Ringdahl Court, Apt. 1, Rome, N.Y. 13440 Filed Sept. 6, 1966, Ser. No. 577,238 5 Claims. (Cl. 222-469) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A multi-use applicator having a hollow handle for receiving liquid or powder to be dispensed therefrom, there being a comb-like multi-toothed applicator head carried by the handle with lateral teeth having hollow channels formed in the teeth for conducting the dispensable material to the outer ends of the teeth. Tapered dispensing openings are formed in the outer end of each tooth, and there are a number of mutually parallel individual ducts connecting from the interior of the handle with each related hollow tooth.
This invention relates to applicators and similar devices, and more particularly a multi-use applicator.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a multi-use applicator for applying hair or fur treating substances directly to the scalp as well as to the fur thereby eliminating the need of applying said substances by hand.
Another object of this invention is to provide a multiuse applicator which is capable of storing medicated substances in powder form, such as, flea powder and the like.
Another object of this invention is to provide a multi use applicator which is adapted to release internally stored substances by squeezing the handle portion of said applicator.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a multi-use applicator which is inexpensive to manufacture, may be moderately priced, is safe to use, is of rigid construction, .and provides maximum utility to its user.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes ,all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a side view of this invention shown in elevation and partly broken away.
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the method of feed from the handle, in accordance with the disclosure found in this invention.
According to this invention, a multi-use applicator is provided with a comb-like applicator body 11, one portion thereof consisting of an elongated, cylindrical hollow handle 12. The other portion of body 11 assumes a straight-line relationship with handle 12 and is provided with a plurality of internally disposed longitudinal channels 17. A plurality of equally spaced, perpendicularly.
positioned teeth-like members 15 extend from the body portion 11 thereby allowing said applicator 10 to assume a comb-like or brush-like appearance. Each elongated channel 17 is operably connected with a perpendicularly positioned channel 18, the end portion of which disclosing a tapered opening 18. The end portion of handle 12 3,353,721 Patented Nov. 21, 1967 is provided with an outside threaded section 13 which, in turn, is adapted to admit a threaded cap 14. In order to prevent the tapered openings 18' from clogging up or admitting dirt or other foreign particles into channels 18, a plurality of cup-like receptacles 19 are provided for enclosing the bottom portions of teeth 15. Said receptacles 19 are suitably connected to each other by an elongated rod 20.
In operation, a disposable, medicated substances such as flea powder is inserted into the cylindrical opening 16 of handle 12. Cap 14 is secured on the threaded portion 13 of handle 12 for preventing the escape of a portion of the above mentioned substance when handle 12 is inadvertently compressed. On the other hand, when cap 14 is threadingly disposed on the end portion of handle 12 the above mentioned substancein oil or powder form may be suitably released to the tapered openings 18' when handle 12 is compressed.
It is submitted that the above disclosure refers to the preferred embodiment only, however, a plurality of changes and modifications may be made without deviating from the scope and spirit of this invention.
What I now claim is:
1. A multi-use applicator comprising, in combination, a body portion in the form of a comb, a hollow tubular flexible handle secured to one end portion of said comb body portion along the same axis as the body portion, said body portion being provided with a plurality of mutually parallel channels parallel with the axis of the body portion operably communicating with .an opening in said handle, each tooth of said body portion provided with a laterally disposed channel having an inlet communicating with one corresponding elongated channel outlet of said body portion for releasing medicated substance from said lateral channel when said flexible handle is compressed to force fluid into the channel.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein the other end portion of said flexible handle is threaded, and an internally threaded cap being adapted to be secured on said other end portion of said handle.
3. The combination according to claim 1, wherein the outlet portion of each of said lateral channels is provided with a tapered opening for controlling the removal of the medicated substance from said handle.
4. The combination according to claim 1, wherein a plurality of individual discrete cup-like receptacles are adapted to be snugly superimposed on the end portions of said teeth for preventing admission of dirt and other particles into said tapered openings of said lateral channels.
5. The combination according to claim 4, wherein a securing connecting rod is provided for uniformly secur ing said individual discrete cup-like receptacles thereon in mutually discretely interspaced positions so that each of said receptacles corresponds with its appropriate related tooth of said body portion.
