Description
1967 R. MORESCHINI SPLASH GUARD FOR TOILET BOWLS Filed Oct. 29, 1965 INVENTOR Rana/d IVOIPSC/Ilfll.
United States Patent 3,350,722 SPLASH GUARD FOR TOILET BOWLS Ronald Moreschini, 2929 7th Ave., Pueblo, Colo. 81003 Filed Oct. 29, 1965, Ser. No. 505,614 3 Claims. (Cl. 4--1) This invention relates to plumbing fixtures and more particularly to that plumbing fixture known as a toilet bowl, a toilet fixture that is found in nearly every bathroom and restroom no matter where it may be.
Unfortunately a sanitation problem often arises in places where toilet bowls are also used as urinals. It is therefore the principal object to overcome this problem by means of a splash guard for toilet bowls, as will hereinafter be described.
Another object of this invention is to provide a splash guard for toilet bowls that will fit into any toilet bowl, regardless of its make.
Another object of this invention is to provide a splash guard for toilet bowls that can be installed by even the most inexperienced person.
Other and further objects of this invention will come to mind as the reading of the description of the invention proceeds and examination is made of the addended drawing.
FIGURE 1 is a sectional view of a typical toilet bowl having this invention mounted therein.
FIGURE 2 is a sectional view taken along line 22 of FIG. 1.
FIGURE 3 is a sectional view of a typical toilet bowl having this invention mounted therein, the invention being in a raised position.
FIGURE 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4-4 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 5 is a sectional View taken along line 55 of FIG. 2.
Looking at the drawing it will be seen that this invention consists of a hollow splash member having the same configuration as that of the inside of the toilet bowl 11 in which it, the splash member, is placed and held by the arm 12 that is Y-shaped when viewed from the top. It is obvious from an examination of the drawing that the aforesaid splash member 10 is basically a funnel, and that the aforesaid arm 12 is swingably hinged at 13 to the same fitting 14 which supports the toilet seat 15 and the lid 16 by means well known to the art and for which no claim is made in this invention. The member 10 is of course removeable for cleaning or replacement if such is desired.
It is obvious from examination of the drawing that the aforesaid arm 12 is so secured to the fitting 14 that when the toilet seat 15 is raised in a vertical position that the splash member 10 will swing upward in the osition shown in FIG. 3 of the drawing, thereby permitting the use of the toilet bowl as a urinal without the sanitation problem that is normally associated with such use: of the toilet bowl.
This invention is subject to any changes and modifications that may fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I now claim as new and desire to secure by grant of Letters Patent is:
1. A splash guard for toilet bowls comprising a funnel like member having the same basic configuration as that of the inside of a toilet bowl in which the said member is slidably placed, and means of supporting the said member within the said toilet bowl which is provided with a toilet seat and lid, said splash guard further characterized by a swingably hinged arm that supports and vertically raises the said member when the said toilet seat is raised in a verticla position to thereby serve as a urinal.
2. The splash guard for toilet bowls of claim 1 further characterized in that the said arm is Y-shaped when viewed from the top.
3. The splash guard for toilet bowls of claim 2 further characterized in that the said arm is swingably mounted on the same fitting that supports the structure to which the said toilet seat and said lid is hingedly secured.
