BELT TERMINATION Filed May l0, 1965 2 G. I F
INVENTOR. .JOSEPH B. HROW/WAG United States Patent Office 3,346,930 Patented Oct. 17, 1967 3,346,930 BELT TERMINATIGN Joseph B. Browning, 323 Paloma Lane, El Caion, Calif. 92021 Filed May 10, 1965, Ser. No. 454,601 1 Claim. (Cl. 24-265) The present invention relates to a belt termination, and more particularly to a belt termination which does not require sewing of the belt.
According to the invention, a flattened cylindrical section of a pliable material such as nylon is provided for terminating the cut end of a cloth belt. In the simplest embodiment, a slot is cut on one side of the cylindrical section and a belt passed through the cylindrical section and back through the slot, the end of the belt lying between t-he slot and one end of the cylindrical section and within the cylindrical section.
A second embodiment would involve having one end of the flattened cylindrical section closed with two parallel slots on one side, the belt being passed into the cylindrical section and through the slot furthest away from the entrance end, up through the slot and back into the second slot, again terminating within the cylindrical section and between the second slot and the entrance of the cylindrical section. This would eliminate any wearing of the belt on the end of the cylindrical section. A third embodiment would involve a metal pin being imbedded in one end of the cylindrical section. In this embodiment the belt is passed through the cylindrical section, and on one side of the pin and then wrapped around the pin and passed back into the cylindrical section.
An object of the present invention is the provision of a belt termination which obviates the necessity of sewing the ends of cloth belts, making length adjustments in situations practical.
Another object is to provide a belt termination which is inexpensive to manufacture and extremely simple to install.
Other objects and many of the attendant advantages of this invention will be readily appreciated as the same becomes better understood by reference to the following detailed description, when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the figures thereof, and wherein:
FIG. 1 is a pictorial perspective of one embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a pictorial perspective of another embodiment of the present invention; and
FIG. 3 is a pictorial perspective of still another embodiment of the the present invention.
Referring to FIG, 1, a flattened cylindrical section A11 CII is shown, having a slot 12 cut in one side thereof, parallel to an end 13. In this embodiment, a webbed belt 14 is passed through end 16 of flattened cylindrical section 11 to end 13, looped around and passed back through slot 12, terminating at 17 between slot 12 and end 16.
Referring to FIG. 2, flattened cylindrical section 18 is shown, having slots 19 and 21 parallel to each other, and to closed end 23 of flattened cylindrical section 18. In this embodiment, a belt (not shown for purposes of clarity) is passed through end 24 of flattened cylindrical section 18 to slot 19, pulled up through slot 19, back through slot 21 to terminate between slot 21 and end 24. It can be seen that this embodiment will secure the end of the belt as firmly as the embodiment of FIG. l and has the additional advantage of not having a portion of the belt protruding out of the opposite end of the flattened cylindrical section from which it is originally inserted, reducing excessive wear.
Referring to FIG. 3, flattened cylindrical section 24 has a thinner portion 26 which the belt enters. Here the belt is passed through end 27 of thinner portion 26 and out end 28, around wire pin 29, to terminate against thinner portion 26.
It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing disclosure relates to only a preferred embodiment of the invention, and that it is intended to cover all changes and modifications of the examples of the invention herein chosen for the purposes of the disclosure, which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
What is claimed is:
A belt termination comprising:
a flattened cylindrical section of pliable material;
said cylindrical section having one closed end;
said cylindrical section having at least two slots on one side thereof parallel to said closed end; whereby a belt suitably dimensioned for passage into said cylinder may be passed into said cylinder and through said at least two slots to effect a termination of said belt.
