Description

Oct. 10, 1967 Filed July 9, 1965 .INVENTORS ROBERTJ. FISHER WILL/AM 5. FISHER ATTORNEY United, States Patent 3,345,762 SLIPPER DEVICE Robert J. Fisher and William S. Fisher, both of Highway 73 and Cushman Ave., Berlin, NJ. 08009 Filed July 9, 1965, Ser. No. 470,773 Claims. (Cl. 36-9) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A slipper device comprising a form element providing an inner sole, a sponge rubber layer positioned over said element, cloth means covering said sponge rubber layer and providing foot engaging and securing means, binding strip means secured with said element and cloth means by stitching about the edge of said element and cloth means, an outer sole member positioned along the bottom of said element, a heel unit positioned between said inner and outer soles, and stitch means securing together said element, cloth means, binding strip means, outer sole member and heel unit.
This invention relates to a slipper device, and more particularly to a slipper device which may be washed without damaging same.
Heretofore slipper devices have been provided which, due to the manner of construction, such as by gluing the components together, the slipper device is damaged or destroyed by washing.
The principal object of the invention, therefore, is to provide a slipper device which has the construction which allows same to be washed by ordinary means without damaging or destroying the slipper device.
Another object of the invention provides a new and improved slipper device which has components which are sewn together, thereby preventing the separation of the components by water-soaking or during a washing operation.
Another object of the invention provides a new and improved slipper device which is attractive in appearance, comfortable to the wearer and made of material which may readily be cleaned by washing.
The above objects as well as many other objects of the invention are achieved by providing a slipper device comprising a form element providing an innersole, a sponge rubber layer positioned over the element, cloth means covering the sponge rubber layer and providing foot engaging and securing means, and a binding strip means secured with said element and cloth means by stitching about the edge of said element and cloth means. An outer sole member is positioned along the bottom of said element, While a heel unit is positioned between said inner andouter soles, and stitching means secures together said element, cloth means, binding strip means, outer sole member and heel unit.
The foregoing and other objects of the invention will become more apparent as the following detailed description of the invention is read in conjunction with the drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a slipper device embodying the invention;
FIGURE 2 is a fragmentary sectional view of the heel portion of the slipper device shown in FIGURE 1 taken on the line 2-2 of FIGURE 1; and
FIGURE 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of FIGURE 1.
Like reference units designate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the figures, the slipper device 10 embodying the invention comprises a form element 12 made of a flexible sheet of material such as cardboard providing the inner sole with an outer peripheral configuration 14. Layer 16 of cushioning material, which may be made of foam rubber is positioned over the element 12 for providing the padding for the slipper device 10. Cloth means 18 includes a layer of material 20 received over the sheet 16 of cushioning material and an upper bridging layer 22 for receiving the foot of the wearer to retain same between the layers 20 and 22. The layers 20 and 22 may be made of cloth material, such as terrycloth, or any other suitable cloth material. a
The member 12, the sheet of material 20 at its edge 24 and the bridging sheet 22 at its edge 26 may all be secured together by stitching with a strip of binding material 30 folded into a U configuration for this purpose and a passing about the periphery of the edge 14 of the member 12.
The bottom 32 of the element 12 has positioned along it, an outer sole member 34 having the same outer peripheral configuration as that provided by the edge 14 of the element 12. The heel end 36, as distinguished from the toe end 38 of the outer sole member 34, has positioned between it and the element 12 a heel unit 40 having a wedge configuration at its front end 42. The heel of unit 40 and outer sole member 34 may be made of a rubber composition material, such as composition crepe, sold by Monarch Rubber Company, or other such material providing flexibility and resiliency.
The materials of which the element 12, cloth means 18, heel unit 40 and outer sole member 34 are made have the property of being sewable by a machine needle using thread which may be of cotton, nylon, or other wellknown material. The outer sole 34 and the heel unit 40 are sewn and secured with the member 12 by the stitching means 42 about the periphery or edge 14 of the element 12 and the outer edges 44 and 46 of the sole member 34 and heel unit 40 respectively (see FIGURE 1). The sewing may be accomplished using cotton thread for the stitching means or any other such suitable sewing thread.
The disclosed slipper device 10 provides a comfortable and durable slipper which, after being Worn, may be cleaned by washing in the ordinary manner without danger of the components being separated or the slipper being damaged.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that the invention may find wide application with appropriate modification to meet the individual design circumstances, but without substantial departure from the essence of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A slipper device comprising a form element providing an inner sole, a sponge rubber layer positioned over said element, cloth means covering said sponge rubber layer and providing foot engaging and securing means, binding strip means secured with said element and cloth means by stitching about the edge of said element and cloth means, an outer sole member positioned along the bottom of said element, a heel unit positioned between said inner and outer soles, and stitch means securing together said element, cloth means, binding strip means, outer sole member and heel unit.
2. The device of claim 1 in which said heel unit has a Wedge configuration.
3. The device of claim 1 in which said form element is made of a flexible cardboard material, said binding strip means is made of a cloth material, and said outer sole member and said heel unit are made of a resilient flexible material.
4. The device of claim 1 in which said stitching means comprises cotton thread.
5. The device of claim 1 in which said cloth means is comprised of terry cloth.
