' UNITED STATES PATENT OFEIcE.
GEORGE Q. ADAMS, OF QUINCY, ILLINOIS.
SUPPORTING-FRAME FOR WlRE-REELS 0F WIRE-TWISTING MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,403, dated January 19, 1866.
Application filed September 4, 1884. Serial No. 142,253.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE Q. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Quincy, county of Adams, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supporting-Frames for \Vire-Reels of ire-Twisting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a supporting-frame for wire-reels to be used in connection with a wire-twisting machine.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved frame. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
A is the supporting-frame, consisting of the side bars, B B, shaped as shown, and joined at c c by crossbars d. The arm can be made of metal or wood, and cast and otherwise formed out of one piece of metal. This frame is supported at end 0 to the twisting-head E of a wiretwisting machine and at end 6 to the bearing f.
G H are two wire-reels, supported and revolving on the axle I, and provided with hubs J. The axle I is supported and has its bearing in the armor side bars, B B, and is held in place by nut K.
In order to connect the reels to the axle, so that the same will revolve with the axle, pins 0 m are inserted in a hole in the hub J and axle (No model.)
I. This is necessary when it is required to fill the reels. In that case the reels are fastened to the axle, and said axle is turned by aid of the crank N, which is placed over the head K of the axle I. \Vhen the reels are full and the wire thereon is required to be used by the twisting-head, the pins are removed and the nut It is screwed up, which presses the bars B B against the hubs J, and regulates the movement of the reels, and consequently the tension of the wires.
By this construction a cheap, simple, and effective reelsupporting frame is produced,
which dispenses with weights or springs to regulate the tension of the wires.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim The reels G H, provided with hubs J J, in combination with frame A, axle I, pins m, nuts K K, and twisting-head E, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this th day of August, 1884.
GEORGE Q. ADAMS.
