CLAMP FOR SUGKER Eons. 334226 Patented Jan. 1 2, 1886.
WITNESSES I v /EWLLW Attorney 8 I Nrrnn STATES ATENT FFICE.
WILLIAM HELLEM, OF ALLENTOWVN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALE TO PORTER BARNES AND DENNIS BARNES, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
CLAMP FOR SUCKER-RODSr SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,226, dated January 12, 1886.
Application filed November 13, 1885. Serial No. 182,727. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM HELLEM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Allentown, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful'lmprovements in Clamps for Sucker-Rods; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved suoker-rod clamp or elevator, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same.
The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.
This invention has reference to suckerrod clamps or elevators; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A designates a shank, the upper end of which is pro vided with aswiveled loop, B, for attachment to the hoistingtackle, and the lower end of which terminates ina yoke or bail, O, the arms of which are provided with bearings for the studs or trunnions D D of a pivoted plate, E. The front side of the latter has a slot, E, and the upper side of the said plate is provided at the inner end of the said slot with a seat, F, for the collar at the upper end of the sucker-rod. The front side of the shank A is provided with staples or bearings G G, for a slidinglatch, H, the motion of which between the said staples is limited by shoulders I I, and the lower end of which is beveled, as at J, and provided with a locking-shoulder, K, 0 adapted to engage the upper edge of the collar of the sucker-rod.
The operation of this invention will be readily understood by those familiar with the class of devices to which it appertains.
The construction is simple and inexpensive, and the device may be easily adjusted for operation or detached, as the case may require.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. As an improvement in sucker-rod clamps or elevators, the combination of a shank or handle terminating in a yoke or bail at its lower end, a slotted plate pivoted in the said yoke, and a sliding latch mounted upon the front side of the said shank, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
2. In a sucker-rod clamp or elevator, the combination of a shank having a swiveled link at its upper end and terminating at its lower end in a yoke or bail, a plate pivoted in said yoke and having a slot extending inwardly from its front edge, a seat formed in the upper side of said plate at the inner end of said slot, and a latch arranged to slide vertically in staples upon the front side of the shank, and having shoulders to limit its vertical movement, and terminating at its lower end in a beveled projection having a lockingshou'lder on its inner side, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WVILLIAM HELLEM. [L.s.]
