Definitions

  • the present invention has for object a device for fixing a covering shaped piece on a supporting shaped piece, in particular for a window-frame.
  • the present invention aims at eliminating this disadvantage and provides a particularly simple solution from the point of view of manufacture and assembling.
  • the device which is the object thereof is characterized in that the said supporting shaped piece has at least two perpendicular faces on one of which is provided a V-groove extending parallel to and adjacent the junction edge of the two faces of the supporting shaped piece, the bisecting plane of the groove being inclined on said face of the shaped piece moving away from said edge, in that the covering shaped piece has, on the one hand, a part adapted to bear on the glass and an inner projection terminating in a chamfered edge directed toward the inside of said covering shaped piece and adapted to be engaged in the V-groove where it is held due to its shape by a lining between the glass and the said part of the shaped piece adjacent to the glass and, on the other hand, a part serving as a third supporting point for the covering shaped piece on the other side of the V-groove relative to the said edge of the supporting shaped piece.
  • FIGURE 1 is a view in cross section of this device applied to a window frame.
  • FIGURE 2 is a section similar to FIG. 1 of a variant.
  • FIGURE 3 is a cross section of the second embodiment of the device applied to a vertical upright.
  • the device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 serves to maintain a glass pane 1 by a covering shaped piece 2 on a supporting piece 3 constituted by .an angle-shaped hollow element with two walls, such as described in applicants Swiss Patent No. 281,056.
  • This hollow element forms each of the sides of a frame adapted to receive the pane 1 of the window and the covering shaped piece 2.
  • a V- shaped groove 4 is provided in one (5) of two perpendicular faces 5 and 6 of the element 3, this groove 4 extending parallel to the junction edge 7 of the faces 5 and 6 and being adjacent to this edge.
  • the bisecting plane X-X of the groove 4 is inclined on the face 5 moving away from the edge 7, one of the sides 4' of the groove 4 thus extending over a certain distance on the face 5 as shown at d.
  • the covering shaped piece 2 has an edge 8 next to the pane 1, an inner rib 12 downwardly inclined, an inner projection terminating in a chamfered edge 10 directed inwardly of the shaped piece 2 and engaging in the groove 4 where it is held in place by a lining G housed between the glass 1 and the part 8 of the shaped piece 2.
  • This lin- 3,342,901 Patented Sept. 19, 1967 ing G is constituted by a deformable tube, for example of rubber or other similar material, held by the downwardly inclined rib 12' and the inner projection 10' which has an upwardly inclined plane.
  • the free space between the glass 1 and the edge '8 is filled with mastic 9 or any other similar filling material.
  • a lining 9' is, moreover, disposed between the glass 1 and the vertical part 3 of the element 3 and a part 5', for example of wood, forms a wedge between the glass and the face 5 of the element 3.
  • the covering shaped 2 has a part 11 comprising an inner ri-b 12 adapted to facilitate the positioning of the shaped piece. This rib moreover only exists on substantial shaped pieces.
  • the shaped element 2 bears at three points situated respectively at 8, at the bottom of the groove 4, and at its inner flange 13 against the face 6 of the element 3.
  • One may solidly fix the shaped piece 2 by the inner flange 13 which may engage push-buttons 14 secured to the face 6 of the element 3 along the edge of the latter, opposite to the edge 7.
  • the push-buttons 14 are of known type and include a shaped washer, fixed by means of a screw 15, the flange engaging the profile of said washer.
  • the fixing device described is employed in the following manner:
  • the positioning of the shaped piece 2 by introducing the chamfered edge 10 in the groove 4 is easy, due to the play reserved for the mastic 9 between the glass 1 and the upper edge 8 of the shaped piece 2.
  • This shaped piece holds in this manner by bearing on the other side of the groove 4 at 13, without it being necessary to hook it on to the push-buttons 14, 15.
  • the latter are employed, in particular for long windows 6 X 3 yards for example, with six equidistant push-buttons.
  • the covering shaped piece 16 has another shape and has no intermediate support 12 but a flange 13' similar to the flange 13 of the shaped piece of FIG. 1.
  • the inner projection 10' of the shaped piece 16 is similar to that of the embodiment described in FIG. 1 and an inner rib 8' adjacent to the edge 8 serves to hold the lining G jointly with the projec tion 10 as shown.
  • the lining G holds in position the shaped piece 16 which bears on the chamfered edge 10 of the projection 10, along the edge 8, and at a third point on the flange 13 which enters into contact with the face 6 of the element 3.
  • the push-buttons 14, 15 are not employed in this case.
  • FIG. 3 The embodiment shown in FIG. 3 is applied in the case of a vertical upright 17 employed, for example, for a partition in an ofiice.
  • This vertical upright 17 is constituted by a hollow shaped piece of quadrangular section serving to join two partition glasses 18, 19 at Two faces 20' and 21 of the upright 17 each have two V-shaped grooves 4 (identical to the grooves shown in FIGS. 1 and 2) extending along the two vertical edges 22, 23; 24, 25 respectively and in which hook the cham- 3 fered edges of said shaped pieces.
  • the edges 13 of the four shaped pieces 16 bear on the two other opposed faces of the vertical upright.
  • the essential advantage of the fixing device described is to produce a simple fixing of the covering shaped pieces for the panes of doors, shop-windows or partitions without employing fixing members such as screws for example.
  • the simplicity of setting up permits of having recourse to non specialized workmen, which represents a substantial economy.
  • a window frame assembly comprising a base section for supporting a glass panel, and at least one cover section mounted on said base section for holding said glass panel thereon, said base section being a hollow prismatically shaped section provided with at least two perpendicular sides, one which has an inclined V-shaped groove extending parallel to and adjacent the junction of the two perpendicular sides of the base section, said cover section including, on the one hand, an element adapted to bear against the glass panel, an inner rib terminating in a hook portion engaged in said V-shaped groove, and, on the other hand, a part serving as a third supporting point on the other side of the V-shaped groove relative to the said junction of the base section, and a gasket between the glass panel and the cover section to hold the hook portion pressed in said V-shaped groove.
  • a device comprising a lining disposed between the glass and the cover section, said part of the cover section forming the third supporting point including an inner flange adapted to 'bear against the face of the side of the base section perpendicular to that receiving the glass panel.
  • a device comprising buttons secured on said face of the side of the base section extending perpendicular to that receiving the glass panel,
  • said base section is a vertical upright of quadrangular section at least one face of which has two spaced V-shaped grooves extending along respective vertical edges of such face, said panel being tightened between the cover sections each mounted in one of said V-shaped grooves, each of the cover sections terminating in a flange adapted to bear against the two opposed faces of said base section, perpendicular to the face with said grooves.
  • a device according to claim 4 wherein the face opposite said face with the grooves is itself provided with two grooves, a second glass panel being supported at the latter said face such that the glasses form an angle of 6.
  • said V-shaped groove is constituted by intersecting flanks, the hook portion including intersecting faces also forming a V-shape.
  • a device wherein said gasket is shaped to contact the glass panel and exert a force on the cover section tending to urge the apex of the hook portion in the apex of the V-shaped groove.
