QPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 333,911, dated January 5, 1886.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE ADAMS, of Sherburne, in the county of Martin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful 5 Improvement in FlaXseed-Separators, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description. l

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

Figure l is a plan view of one of my improved flaxseed-separators. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevationof the same,taken through the line a: m, Fig. 1.

The object of this invention is to provide flaXseed-separators for removing mustard-seed and other round seeds from flaXseed, and which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, and reliable in operation.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the machine, as will be hereinafter fully described and then claimed.

A is an inclined frame, the lower end of which is beveled upon the lower side to fit squarely upon the floor. The upper end of the inclined frame A is attached to an upright frame, B, by which it is supported at the desired inclination.

To the side bars of the inclined frame A,at their upper and lower ends and near their upper edges, are pivoted the upper ends of metallic straps (l, the lower ends of which are 5 pivoted to the side bars of an inclined frame, D, fitting loosely in the frame A, so that it will vibrate freely. To the side bars of the frame D are attached the ends of plates E, in such positions that the said plates will overlap and be at a little distance from each other and will have a slight downward inclination toward the upper end of the frame D, as shown in Fig. 2. To the lower end of the frame D is attached a plate, F, the upper edge of which 5 fits closely against the lower side of the lower plate E to carry the flaxseed from the said lower plate E over the lower cross-bar of the frame A. To the upper end of the frame D is attached an inclined plate, G, the lower edge of which rests upon the forward part of the upper side of the upper plate E to prevent any seed from falling off the forward edge of the said upper plate E. The upper cross-bar of the frame D is slotted to form a handle, H, for convenience in vibrating the said frame D.

To the inner sides of the side bars of the frame A, near their upper edges, are attached cleats I,for the upper edges of the side bars of the frame D to strike against in the upward movement of the said frame to jar the frame, and thus insure the downward movement of the fiaxseed upon the plates E.

To the upper cross-bar of the upright frame B is attached the hopper J, from which the flaxseed is fed into the separator, and which is provided with a long narrow dischargeopening, so that the seed will be introduced into the machine in a thin sheet.

Vith this construction, as the frame D is vibrated the fiat fiaxseed will be carried forward from one plate E to another by the successive jars of the said frame, and will be discharged from the plate F, while the mustardseed and other round seeds will roll from the forward edges of the plates E to the floor, or into a receiver placed beneath the machine:

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a flaxseed-separator, the combination, with the inclined frame A B, provided with cleats I, of the vibrating frame D, supported by pivoted straps C, and provided with inclined overlapping plates E and guard-plates F G, and the hopper J, substantially as here- 8 5 in shown and described, whereby round seeds will be separated from the fiaxseed and discharged beneath the machine, as set forth.
