Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2, 19115.
Application filed June 9, 1914. Serial No. 844,059.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JAMES D. MAY, Sn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jay, in the county of Santa Rosa and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guano-Distributers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in guano distributers and comprises a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a side elevation of the invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a central vertical sectional view. Fig. 4 is a sectional view through the handle showing part of the apparatus in elevation, and Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of a vibrating distributer.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a hopper which is mounted stationary upon the frame B, and C is a wheel mounted upon the stub shaft D journaled in the bearings D. Handles E are fastened to the frame and a scraper F is held upon the beam and a plow G secured to the rear end of the frame.
Projecting from the faces of the wheel are lugs K, and N is a scoop-shaped distributer having curved arms 0 projecting therefrom and terminating in eyes 0 Said distributer is fastened to a stapleshaped member R, pivotally mounted upon pins T carried on the opposite sides of the hopper. One of said rods 0 is positioned upon either side of the wheel and has a bent portion adapted to be positioned in the path of said lugs K, thereby affording a vibratmg movement of the distributer as the wheel rotates. A rope S is fastened to a bail shaped member S which passes through the eyes 0 and through the eyes J from the hopper and its end is fastened to the handle, as shown clearly in the drawings, and affords means whereby the operator, by pullmg upon the rope, may cause the curved portions of said rods to be thrown out of the paths of said lugs and which will prevent vibratory movement to the scoopshaped distributer. Said distributer N' is positioned, as shown, adjacent to the exit end of the hopper and tends to shake the guano and loosen the same from the hopper as the machine passes over the ground. A suitable slide 1, having a slot 1 therein, is held in adjusted positions by means of the winged nut I and serves to regulate the supply of guano to be distributed by holding the lower end of the slide different distances from the exit end of the hopper.
By the provision of a device embodying the features of my invention, it will be noted that a simple and efficient distributer is afforded whereby the quantity of guano distributed may be regulated and easily and quickly dispensed by the vibratory movement imparted to the distributer as the wheel rotates.
hat I claim to be new is:
A guano distributer comprising a frame, a tapering hopper mounted thereon, its lower open end projecting below the beams of the frame, a wheel journaled in suitable bearings upon the frame, lugs projecting from the opposite faces of the wheel in alinement with each other, a scoop-shaped vibrating distributer member, the opposite walls of which are positioned upon opposite sides of the lower portion of the hopper which projects below said beams, a U-shaped member upon which the distributer member is mounted, said member being pivoted to the walls of the hopper, rods fastened to the rear end of the vibrator and bent opposite each other to form convexed portions positioned in the paths of said lugs, the upper In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my egds of she hrotlls ltaving eyes poiitioned signature in presence of two Witnesses.
a ove sai W ee a ai the ends 0 which engage said eyes, a rope secured to said bail, JAMES DASIER and an eye fastened to the hopper and in a Vitnesses:
line With the Wheel and through which said J. D. Noun,
rope passes. H. D. NOWLING.
