Its object is to provide improved means and process of shooting an arrow by which the bow may be maintained plumb during shooting whereby to enhance the accuracy of the shot.
The foregoing object of the present invention as well as its advantages will become apparent during the course of the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of a bow equipped with the improved archery aiming means of the present invention;
FIGS. 2 and 3 are front and side elevational views of said means; and
FIG. 4 is an enlarged view of a portion of the structure shown in FIGS. 2 and 3.
Referring to the drawings in greater detail, A designates the improved archery aiming means embodying the invention which comprises a transparent eyepiece B, centrally disposed sight means C which may be in the form of a dot and a vertical line as shown scribed and painted on the eyepiece B, and a horizontal spirit level D formed in the eyepiece B, in such proximity to the sight means C that the two can be viewed simultaneously by the archer in aiming. The spirit level D is constructed by machining or molding a blind cavity into the eyepiece B from one side, cutting into or molding the top wall of the cavity 10 to arcuately form it convex upwardly as shown at 11 in FIG. 4, filling the cavity with a spirit liquid such as gasoline to which has been added an oil base dye to color the gasoline so that a single readily visible bubble 9 remains, and sealing off the open end of the cavity.
In the use of the means and in practice of the process of the present invention, the archery aiming means A is mounted on the bow as by inserting the eyepiece B in a bezel 12 which is affixed by wires 13 to a mount 14 slidably carried on a slide bar 15 mounted vertically in the instance on the front face of the bow 16 above its handle 17. The means A is shown in FIG. I mounted on the left side of the bow the same as the arrow rest 19 for a right handed archer. For a left handed archer the means A and the arrow rest 19 would be on the right hand side of the bow. The bow is then plumbed by suspending it in a suitable manner as by hanging it from a string and while it is in this position the eyepiece B is rotated in its bezel until the spirit level D levels, i.e. its bubble reaches the high-point of the arcuate top wall of the cavity 10, and is cemented in place. From then on the archer, to know that his shot will be as accurate as it can be under the circumstances, need only sight the sight means C on target and level the spirit level D Patented Aug. 29, 1967 which two means C and D he can view simultaneously. The most accurate shot occurs when the bow is thus plumbed at the time the arrow is released.
The invention is valuable because the archer need not take his eyes off his sight in aiming to see that his bow is plumb and because it can be practiced in tournament shooting as well as in woods and rough terrain where one can only guess at the plumbness of his bow.
It will thus be seen that there has been provided by the present invention improved archery aiming means and process in which the foregoing object together with other thoroughly practical advantages has been successfully achieved.
While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described it should be understood that modifications, variations and changes may be resorted to without departing from the ambit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In an archery bow sight device, the combination comprising:
(a) a substantially flat transparent disc-like eyepiece member adapted for mounting on a bow;
(b) archery bow sight aiming means fixedly positioned in said eyepiece member, said how sight aiming means located on the vertical centerline of said eyepiece member; and
(c) spirit level bubble means integrally formed in said eyepiece member, said spirit level bubble means horizontally and centrally fixedly positioned beneath and spaced apart from said archery bow sight aiming means.
2. In the archery bow sight device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the archery bow sight aiming means consists of a dot sight member.
3. In the archery bow sight device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the eyepiece member is mounted within a circular frame member.
4. In the archery bow sight device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the spirit bubble level means includes a colored liquid so as to enhance the readability thereof.

Claims (1)

1. IN AN ARCHERY BOW SIGHT DEVICE, THE COMBINATION COMPRISING: (A) A SUBSTANTIALLY FLAT TRANSPARENT DISC-LIKE EYEPIECE MEMBER ADAPTED FOR MOUNTING ON A BOW; (B) ARCHERY BOW SIGHT AIMING MEANS FIXEDLY POSITIONED IN SAID EYEPIECE MEMBER, SAID BOW SIGHT AIMING MEANS LOCATED ON THE VERTICAL CENTERLINE OF SAID EYEPIECE MEMBER; AND (C) SPIRIT LEVEL BUBBLE MEANS INTEGRALLY FORMED IN SAID EYEPIECE MEMBER, SAID SPIRIT LEVEL BUBBLE MEANS HORIZONTALLY AND CENTRALLY FIXEDLY POSITIONED BENEATH AND SPACED APART FROM SAID ARCHERY BOW SIGHT AIMING MEANS.
