(Cl. 242-5553) My invention relates to a paper roll receptacle and more particularly to an improved paper roll receptacle having mounting means therein for positioning a paper roll and holding the paper roll which substantially fills the receptacle.

Paper roll receptacles or holders are well known and in use. The present invention is directed to an improved paper roll receptacle which is adapted to receive a paper roll substantially as large as the recess within the receptacle for holding the same. This invention includes an improved arrangement for mounting the paper roll on a paper roll holder to facilitate dispensing of the paper from the paper roll and to positively hold and retain the paper roll and the holder therein while permitting the paper roll with the holder to be positioned into the recess so as to be retained therein. In the present invention the paper roll receptacle has spindle mounting plates on the side walls thereof with passages therein which are directed upwardly from the front edge of the mounting plates toward the geometric center of the receptacle and downwardly to the geometric center of the receptacle so as to position the paper roll at the geometric center of the receptacle for usage. With this mounting, the paper roll will be retained on its roller holder so that it will not slide out and will permit entrance of the paper roll on the holder into the recess for mounting therein without conflicting with the walls and sides of the receptacle.

It is therefore an object of this invention to provide an improved paper roll receptacle.

Another object of this invention is to provide in an improved paper roll receptacle a mounting for the paper roll holder which will facilitate entrance of a paper roll substantially as large as the recess into the receptacle and to positively positioned a paper roll therein.

These and other objects of this invention will become apparent from a reading of the attached description together with the drawings wherein:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a paper roll receptacle embodying my invention,

FIGURE 2 is a sectional view of the receptacle of FIGURE 1 embodying my invention and taken along the lines 22 therein,

FIGURE 3 is a plan view of a paper roll mounting roller for the improved paper roll receptacle, and

FIGURE 4 is a sectional view of the improved paper roll receptacle of FIGURE 1 taken along the lines 44 therein and showing a spindle mounting plate.

FIGURE 1 shows in perspective a paper roll receptacle of the type applicable for general household usage. This type of receptacle, which is indicated generally at 10, includes several compartments for various types of household papers, such as foil, waxed paper and rolls of absorbent paper. The respective rolls are all mounted in separate compartments (not shown) each having pivoted front wall members indicated generally at 15, 16 and 17 in FIGURE 1 which pivot to open and expose the recess within the receptacle in which the various types of papers are to be positioned. Such a paper roll receptacle has no provisions for mounting the individual rolls on a roller to positively position the same within the receptacle to facilitate dispensing of the various types of paper therefrom. Further, receptacles of this type have recesses or areas therein which are just large enough to accommodate or house conveniently the various types of household papers.

My invention is particularly applicable to a receptacle of this type in that it provides a mounting for the paper roll or any one of the other types of materials mounted in roll form on a roll holder to securely position the same therein and to permit entrance of the roll into the recessed area. While I have shown my invention in connection with a particular type of receptacle, it will be understood that it may be applicable to any type in which the paper roll when positioned therein is completely enclosed. Thus for the purpose of the present disclosure, it will be seen that the receptacle 10 includes side walls indicated generally at 20, a back wall 22, a bottom or base mounting wall 24, a pivoted front Wall 17 which is pivoted on the side walls, as at 25, and the top wall indicated generally at 30 which, in the case of the receptacle shown, may be part of the base of the additional receptacle openings or recessed areas for the additional rolls to be housed therein. The pivoted front wall 17 opens to completely expose the area therein which defines a recess slightly larger than the conventional size of the household paper roll to be mounted and stored therein. In FIGURE 2, such a roll is shown in phantom at 35.

In the present invention, suitable side mounting plates, only one of which is shown at 36, are positioned on the side walls 20, either to be formed integrally therewith or separate therefrom. In the present disclosure the side mounting plates 36 are shown mounted on a generally U- shaped flange member 40 with the side mounting plates being secured to the upstanding portions of the same and the U-shaped bracket being secured to the bottom or floor 24 of the receptacle through suitable screws, such as is indicated at 45. The side mounting plates are substantially the same size as the side walls such as to fit within the receptacle in the area or recess for the paper roll therein. The paper roll to be positioned therein will have a diametrical dimension which is slightly less than the height and depth dimensions of the recess for the container so as to provide a minimum clearance therebetween. This will facilitate entrance of the roll into the recess of the receptacle for mounting on a roller. The side wall mounting plates have passages 50 machined or otherwise suitably positioned therein which passages will start from an edge of the side mounting plates adjacent the pivoted front wall 17 of the receptacle. These passages start on the edge of the plates at a height substantially at the same level as the geometric center of the recess. The passages extend upwardly and rearwardly beyond a geometric center of the recess and then downwardly and forwardly to the geometric center of the recess. The passages will fit and permit movement of the spindle ends or spindles 51, 52 of a paper roll holder orroller 55 which is adapted to mount the paper roll in a conventional manner and will position the same within the recess. The paper roll holder has a length dimension slightly less than the distance between the side walls of the receptacle and the spindles 51 52 are suitably secured thereto at the geometric center of the roller and extend therefrom a length which will permit the same to be slidably mounted in the passages in the mounting plates on the side walls. The particular passages will locate the spindles at the geometric center of the recess with the roller concentric therewith and hence the paper roll mounted thereon concentric therewith. The spindles will be locked or prevented from forward movement because of the shape of the passages so that the paper roll thereon may be rotated and paper sheets therefrom dispensed without moving the paper roll out of the recess of the receptacle. The slight upward movement of the spindles as the paper roll is advanced into the recess is sufiicient to allow clearance between the paper roll and the top of the receptacle and the rearward movement beyond the geometric center of the recess is also of such dimension as to permit the paper roll thereon to be so recess, the roll may be inserted into the recess and'positively positioned and locked therein so that the outer surface of the same will not be in contact with the back, bottom, front or top walls of the receptacle. This particular mounting permits a conventional size household paper roll to be inserted into a container having a recess just large enough to receive the same and yet be positively positioned therein for ease in dispensing and storage.

In my improved paper roll receptacle, it will be recognized that the side wall mounting plates may be formed integral with the side walls or suitably secured thereto. Further, the paper roller and spindles may be mounted on a mounting bracket, such as 40 in FIGURES 2 and 4, to accurately and positively position the side mounting plates therein. The particular mounting plates may be made of any suitable material.

In considering'this invention it should be remembered that the present disclosure is intended to be illustrative only, and the scope of the invention should be determined by the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A paper roll receptacle comprising: a container having a front wall and enclosing rear, side, top and bottom walls to define a paper roll receiving recess therein; said front wall being movable to open the recess for insertion of the paper roll therein; each of said side walls having symmetrically disposed spindle receiving passages therein originating at the edge of the side walls adjacent the front wall and extending upwardly and rearwardly beyond the geometric center of the recess; said passage continuing downwardly and forwardly to the geometric center of the recess; and a paper roll mounting roller having a length dimension less than the distance between the side rolls and spindles extending from the ends of the same to slidably fit into the passages and rest at the geometric center of the recess.

2. The paper roll receptacle of claim '1 in which the side walls include spindle mounting plates having said passages therein mounting the spindles of the paper roll mounting roller.

3. The paper roll receptacle of claim 2 in which the edges of the passages receiving the spindles of the paper roll mounting roller are exposed when said front wall is moved away from the side walls opening the recess.

4. Claims

1. A PAPER ROLL RECEPTACLE COMPRISING: A CONTAINER HAVING A FRONT WALL AND ENCLOSING REAR, SIDE, TOP AND BOTTOM WALLS TO DEFINE A PAPER ROLL RECEIVING RECESS THEREIN; SAID FRONT WALL BEING MOVABLE TO OPEN THE RECESS FOR INSERTION OF THE PAPER ROLL THERIN; EACH OF SAID SIDE WALLS HAVING SYMMETRICALLY DISPOSED SPINDLE RECEIVING PASSAGES THEREIN ORIGINATING AT THE EDGE OF THE SIDE WALLS ADJACENT THE FRONT WALL AND EXTENDING UPWARDLY AND REARWARDLY BEYOND THE GEOMETRIC CENTER OF THR RECESS; SAID PASSAGE CONTINUING DOWNWARDLY AND FORWARDLY TO THR GEOMETRIC CENTER OF THE RECESS; AND A PAPER ROLL MOUNTING ROLLER HAVING A LENGTH DIMENSION LESS THAN THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE SIDE ROLLS AND SPINDLES EXTENDING FROM THE ENDS OF THE SAME TO SLIDABLY FIT INTO THE PASSAGES AND REST AT THE GEOMETRIC CENTER OF THE RECESS.
