Description

O. A. GAUDINO July 4, 19 67 COIN, KEY AND PAPER HOLDER MOUNTABLE ON DASHBOARD Filed June 2, 1965.
If I N VEN TOR. UQgy004G4 017m0 United States Patent ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An article support mountable in an automobile to provide the driver with a mental reminder and carrying device for coins, keys and papers.
The present invention relates to a coin, key and paper holder or receptacle that is mountable by a magnet on a dashboard or other metal surface of an automobile, or the like, and more particularly it relates to providing a mental reminder and carying device for coins, a key, and papers such as deposit receipts, so that as the device of the invention is mounted on a metal dashboard by a magnet, it provides a reminder and indication to the vehicle driver that necessary coins are available or needed for a parking meter, soft drink machine, as well as providing a receptacle for papers such as bank deposit receipts that are incident to use in drive-in banks, drive-in laundries and other drive-in retail stores.
There has been a need by many drivers to provide a receptacle for carrying additional keys and a certain amount of small change, although it is realized that there is a certain amount of danger in carrying keys and change that may be observed from the outside of ones car. This is overcome when it is considered that one may carry a postoflice mailbox key and a very small amount of change amounting to not more than one dollar.
Therefore, an object of the invention is to provide a mechanical apparatus that is mountable on a dashboard by a magnet and thus readily removable and inserted into ones pocket or purse, and at the ame time provide a display means for a driver to observe the needed or available resources for use in a parking meter or other vending machine, and also to provide paper retaining means for disposing therein bank deposit receipts and other such papers, such papers being retained between the holder and the dashboard.
A further object of the invention is to provide means so that a mental accounting can be provided to a vehicle operator or passengers so that there is a reminder provided for such persons.
A further object of the invention is to provide receptacle means for keys such as postoflice mailbox keys adapted to be held in the receptacle of the present invention.
A further object of the invention is to provide paper retaining means, particularly means adapted to partieularly hold rolled or folded papers between the receptacle and the dashboard.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a holder which may also be suspended from a knob or other extension mounted on the dashboard or the like, and which is mounted from a loop or similar means.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for a shopping plate or shopping key adapted to be mounted on the device of the invention, so that purchases can be made from drive-in stations and the like.
The above and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent upon full consideration of the following detailed description and accompanying drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 is aside cross-sectional view of the coin,
3,329,277 Patented July 4, 1967 key and paper receptacle holder of the present invention showing the manner in which it is adapted to be mounted by a magnet from a dashboard in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the invention;
FIGURE 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along lines 2-2 of FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 is a modification in which the device is shown adapted to be supported from a knob or other projection from a dashboard or other means in accordance with another best mode of the invention; and
FIGURE 4 shows a cross-sectional view taken along lines 44 of FIGURE 3.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a dashboard or other metal mounting means 10 in which a coin, key and paper holding receptacle 12 is mounted by means of an attached magnet 14. The magnet is shown in contact with the metal surface of the dashboard 10.
The receptacle 12 is shown having a set of flanges 20, 20 which extend from the sides of the receptacle 12, and which provide shields for covering or obscuring the display of keys or coins that may be disposed in the receptacle 12. In between the shields or flanges 20, 20, there is a series of recesses or openings for receiving coins, keys or the like, the recesses being shown as 22, 24, respective ly. Recesses 22 are disposed along a generally vertical surface, while recesses 24, 24 are disposed along a substantially horizontal surface thereof. In the upper portion of the flanges 20, 20, there is an additional aperture 26, 26, as particularly shown in FIGURE 2, so that the receptacle 12 may be mounted by a string or wire 28 that passes between the apertures 26, 26 and is mounted from a knob or other projection 30, as shown in FIGURE 3.
There is also provided between the back portion 34 of the receptacle 12 which is above the magnet 14 and the dashboard 10, a space for receiving a partially or completely rolled paper 40, such as a bank deposit receipt or other paper such as a check and the like which may be partially rolled or folded and held in position by the resilient manner in which the paper is rolled, as shown in FIGURE 1. Thus the paper 40 is held in place securely by the receptacle 12 between the receptacle and the dashboard.
Additional embodiments of the invention in this specification will occur to others and therefore it is intended that the scope of the invention be limited only by the appended claims and not by the embodiments described hereinabove. Accordingly, reference should be made to the following claims in determining the full scope of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A coin, key and paper receptacle adapted to be mounted on a dashboard and the like, comprising a base and a flange disposed on each side of the base along the vertical edges thereof, a series of coin or .key retaining recesses disposed on a front and top side of the base, a magnet mounted on a lower rear portion of the base adapted to be secured on a dashboard, and a space provided above the magnet and behind the upper portion of the rear of the base adapted for retaining paper in a rolled or partially rolled condition between the base and the dashboard.
2. A coin, key and paper receptacle adapted to be mounted on a dashboard and the like, comprising a base and a flange disposed on each side of the base along the vertical edges thereof, a series of coin or key retaining recesses disposed on a front and top side of the base, said apertures being disposed in the upper portion of each of the flanges for providing a string or wire therebetween adapted to hang the base from a plug or other extension trom the dashboard or the like.
3. The invention according to claim 2 wherein the series of recesses is adapted to disclose to the driver that the coins are available for use in coin vending machines, or that coins are required to be obtained for such use.
4. A coin, key and paper receptacle holder comprising a base and a flange disposed on the vertical sides thereof, a magnet mounted on a lower rear portion of the base adapted to be secured to a dashboard, a space disposed between the upper rear portion of the base and the dashboard for receiving paper which is partially or fully rolled and interposed therein, and a series of coin or key receiving recesses on the front and top surfaces of said base for indicating to a driver the availability of coins and keys for use in coin and key operated mechanisms.
