Zoli-213) This invention relates to a plating apparatus with a removable barrel.
More particularly stated the invention relates to a removable mounting for a plating cylinder or barrel.
This invention has for its salient object to prov-ide a mounting for a plating cylinder or barrel so constructed and arranged that the barrel can be easily and quickly mounted in and removed from the mounting and when assembled will be securely and firmly held in position.
Further objects of the invention will appear from the following specification taken in connection with the drawings which form a part of this application and in which- FIG. l is a side elevation of a plating cylinder mounting and support;
FIG. 2 is an elevational view at right angles;
FIG. 3 is an enlarged side elevation of the mounting showing the manner in which the barrel or cylinder is mounted in the supporting side plates.
In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawings the support for the cylinders consists of a pair of plates 1li and 11 formed of suitable insulating material, these plates being spaced apart and held in position by bolts 12 and a cross member 13. A driving motor M for the cylinder is mounted on the bolts 12.
The plating barrel or cylinder 15 has trunnions 16 and 17 and the plates 10 and 11 have elongated notches 18 which extend inwardly from one edge thereof and are preferably downwardly inclined as shown in FIG. 3.
Notches 18 receive the trunnions 16 and 17 and when the `cylinder is mounted in position the trunnions are disposed at the inner ends of the notches.
In order to firmly secure the trunnions in the notches 18 a latch 20 is pivoted at 21 to each of the plates and each latch has a notch 22 dimensioned to t around the trunnions at the ends of the cylinder or barrel. Each latch also has a second notch 23 which is positioned to t a thumb screw 24- which can be tightened to secure the latch in latched position. A thumb screw 25 for the pivot 21 can be tightened to hold the latch in Iinoperative or unlatching position.
The cylinder or barrel 15 has mounted thereon a gear 26 which meshes with an idler gear 27 which is driven by a gear 28 on the shaft of the motor M. The notches 18 are so located as to position the gears 26 and 27 in meshing position when the cylinder is mounted there- For mounting the electroplating assembly in a tank, a pair `of copper bars 34 are secured to the side plates in the usual and known manner to be set upon a pair of rods 30 and 31 in a tank. One of the rods may act as a bus bar, as usual, and the liexible electrical connections 32 and 33 electrically lconnect one of the bars 34 with the electrodes in the barrel lin the usual and known manner.
Although one specic embodiment of the invention has been particularly shown and described, it will be understood that the invention is capable of modification and that changes in the construction and in the arrangement of the various cooperating parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as expressed in the following claims.
I claim:
1. A barrel mounting for a plating barrel comprising a pair of plates having notches extending thereinto, from one vertical edge, for receiving barrel trunnions and a latch pivoted to each plate and having a notch dimensioned to t around the trunnion and means for holding the latches in latched position.
2. In combination a plating barrel having trunnions at the ends thereof, a pair of vertical plates having inwardly extending notches for receiving said trunnions and latches pivoted to said plates having notches to lit over said trunnions and means for securing the latches in latching position.
3. ln combination a plating barrel having trunnions at the ends thereof, a pair of vertical plates having inwardly and downwardly inclined extending notches for receiving said trunnions and latches pivoted to said plates having notches to lit over said trunnions and means for securing the latches in latching position.
4. An electroplating barrel assembly including two spaced and parallel side plates rigidly secured together and each having a bearing notch for a plating barrel extending inwardly from one edge thereof, a plating barrel having a trunnion at each end thereof rotatable in one of said notches, and latch means on each of said side plates coactive with one of said trunnions for releasably holding the trunnions in said notches.

An electroplating barrel assembly as defined Iin claim 4 wherein each latch means includes a bar pivotally connected at one end on the side plate above the corresponding notch, to extend into latching position across said notch between the trunnion and the edge of the side plate and adapted to be swung upwardly away from the notch to permit removal of said trunnion, and means for releasably fastening the bar in latching position.
6. An electroplating barrel assembly as defined in claim i wherein said plating barrel has a gear at one end and with the addition Vof a driving gear journaled on one of said side plates with `which said gear on the barrel automatically meshes as the trunnions are slid into said notch-es.
7. An electroplating barrel assembly including two spaced and parallel side plates rigidly secured together and each having a bearing notch for a plating barrel extending inwardly and downwardly from one edge thereof, a plating barrel having a trunnion at each end thereof rotatable in one of said notches.

Claims (1)

1. A BARREL MOUNTING FOR A PLATING BARREL COMPRISING A PAIR OF PLATES HAVING NOTCHES EXTENDING THEREINTO, FROM ONE VERTICAL EDGE, FOR RECEIVING BARREL TRUNNIONS AND A LATCH PIVOTED TO EACH PLATE AND HAVING A NOTCH DIMENSIONED TO FIT AROUND THE TRUNNION AND MEANS FOR HOLDING THE LATCHES IN LATCHED POSITION.
