This invention relates` to cert-ain. improvements in that class of shutter-bolts which are designed for securing the shutters ina partially open or bowed state, as wellvlfas for lockingV them in a closed state. The object fof the within-described invention is to effectnally lock the shutters while in a partially open or bowed state so that they will be equally as secure against burglars as when looked in a closed state.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully y invention, I'will proceed to describe it. A n
A A represent two Window-shutters, which may be constructed and applied toa window Ain the nsual or in anyproper way.
B-C are two metalsockets, which are secured 'by screw's,I one to each shutter, and in these sockets abolt D is placed and allowed to slide freely. The boltD is at,.is allowed to slide .freel'yn the'sockets, and at the'innerend off the bolt there is a lip or pendent projection a.
The socketv 13,1 which is the principal@ one' zandflonger than the, socket C, has a'slotb made longitudinally in it 4nearly its whole length, andL a bolt or pin c, which is riveted l in the bolt, passes through this slot band has a buttoxigEiitted loosely on its outer end. On the socket B,at the edges vof. the slot b, there aretaper plates d d, which extend the.V whole .closed state.
lengthof the slot and are placed iu reverse positionsthat isto say, the thin end of one pos'ite thethick end a fully closed state. The bolt D-extends en! tirely through the Asocket C, and in order te prevent the casual'movement of the bolt from sockets C the button E is turned sov as to bear upon'thextaper plates d d, and thereby firmly clamp the bolt-D in position, the taper plates d d in consequence of having reverse positions, causing, as the button is turned, the bolt to be pressed against the front side of the socket B. VThis will be fullyunderstood by referring to'Figs.l 4t and 5, the former showing the bolt secured or bound in the socket B and the latter showing the bolt in a loose or free state in said socket.
4Theinner end ofthe socket C has a recess. e formed in a ledge f on its bottom to receive the projection or lip a of the bolt and secure the shutters in a partially open or bowed;
C beforethe shutters can be opened. This plate or ange g therefore, it will be seen, is an important feature oi the invention, for it etfectually secures or locks the shutters in a partiallyopen or bowed state, as the flange g entirely prevents the bolt from being withdrawn'from the socket C except freni the inside when the shutte rs are in a completely v"The bolt D,it will be understood, has a risvont from the recess or hole e, the slots in the sockets being enlarged or increasedV at cer-r closedand partially open or bowed state respective of the constructionr and arrange-'- ment herein shown and described; but
Vl. 'lheemploymentor use of the plate'or flange g, placed above lhebolt D', either di'- 'rgletly over the recess e or situated near or l'artlxei'y from the end ofthe plate on which the socket C rests,`fo1' the purpose of pre- `venting; the disengagement ory releasing 0f the bolt from the socket C when the lip a of the bolt is in the recess e while the shutters mein a partially open orl bowed state', as set fortln p 2. The employment or use of the'button E, applied 01 attached' to tllebolt D, in combination with the taper plates d (l, atl-z'wlled-v t0 the socket l in the relation with each other as shown, for the purpose specified.
S5. The employment or use of' the recess e, formed by a semieii'eu-lar rim on a ledge f 01,'
extension ol' the socket C under the plate or y flange 0,1 for tlie purpose of receiving and seeu'ring'the lip a of the bolt, when it is in a partially openl or bowed state,for the purpose specified. l
