J. S. ANTHES.
CHILD'S VEHIGLE.
No. 332,131. Patented Dec. 8, 1885.
UNITED S ATES JOHN S. ANTHES, OF BERLIN, ONTARIO, CANADA.
CHILD'S VEHICLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,131, dated December 8, 1885.
Application filed April 30, 1885. Serial No. 163,960. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN SoHMITT ANTHEs, a citizen of Canada, residing at Berlin, in the county of Waterloo, in the Province of Ontario, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Vehicles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to improvements in childrens vehicles; and it consists in a couvertible childs sleigh, constructed as herein shown and described, having detachable knees and benches, and being provided with detachable hub-brackets to receive the axles of a childs carriage when runners are to be substituted for wheels.
In the annexed drawings, which illustrate my invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a childs vehicle as arranged for winter use by the application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the above. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of a sleigh provided with my improved knees and benches. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the sleigh-bench. Fig. 5 is thesleigh-knee. Fig. 6 is the hub-bracket.
The sleigh-knee A, Fig. 5, is provided with the feet a a, and the outside arm 12, all of which are secured to the sleigh-runner B by screws or bolts. 0 is a slot, and, d a bolt-hole made in the knee for the attachment of either the sleigh-bench or the hub-bracket.
The sleigh-bench C, Fig. 4, is made of any approved pattern and material, and is provlded with the lugs e for fastening on the sleigh-top, and with the nipples ff, which take into the slots 0 in the knees, and the bolt-holes g g, which register with the holes (2 in the sleigh-knees.
The hub-bracket D, Fig. 6, is provided with the bolt-hole k,registering with the hole (Z in the sleigh-knee, the nipple i, to takeinto the slot 0, and the hub j, to receive the axles as herein shown and described, has the sleigh- I top E secured to the benches, preferably by screws or bolts passing through thelugs e. The sleigh-knees A, having the runners B secured to their feet a and arms b, are attached to the benches O by the nipples f fholding in the slots 0, and by the bolts 7c in the bolt-holes d I in the knee and g in the sleigh-bench.
The body of a summer carriage may be easily and quickly attached to the sleigh-runners B and knees A by first removing the wheels and substituting for them the hubbrackets D, the axles resting in the hubs j, then removing the bench O and top E from the sleigh and securing the hub-brackets D to the outside of the knees A, in the manner above described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as mine, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A sleigh-knee, A, having the feet aa, arm b, slot 0, and bolt-hole d, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The hub-bracket D, provided with the bolt-hole h, nipple z, and hub j, substantially as specified.
3. A sleigh-knee, in combination with a I detachable bracket provided with a fastening device for securing it to said knee,in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
Signed at Berlin this 15th day of April, 1885.
JOHN S. ANTHES.
In presence of- CHAS. HUBER, ALEXANDER MILLAR.
