Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND sENN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COCOANUT PULP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 331,559, dated December 1. 1885.
Application filed July 16, 1885. Serial No. 171,783. (No specimens.)
T 0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FERDINAND SENN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gocoanut Pulp, of which the following is a specification.
This invention consists in a pulp prepared from cocoanut, glucose, sugar, and salicylic acid.
In preparing my pulp I take cocoanut, twenty-five pounds; glucose, twenty pounds; sugar, five pounds, and miX the same intimately together by grating and stirring, or by any suitable means, at the ordinary temperature. The mixture thus obtained is then heated gradually to from 225 to 240 Fahn enheit, the heat being maintained for about fifteen minutes. Then about half an ounce of salicylic acid is intimately mixed with the hot mass, and the pulp put up in suitable packages is ready for the market.
The pulp thus prepared retains the oil and aroma of the cocoanut. It preserves its color. It is not affected by the atmospheric air, by changes in temperature, or by moisture. It is not liable to turn sour. All the nutritious properties contained in the nut in its natural state are retained, while my pulp is easier digested than desiccated cocoanut or cocoanut in its natural state.
. What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- .The cocoanut pulp herein described, consisting of cocoanut, glucose, and sugar incorporated and combined with salicylic acid, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
