ORE-CONCENTRATING JIGGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 331,071, dated November 2%, 1885.
Application filed February 26, 1885. Serial No. 157,084. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN S. LODER, of Leadville, in the county of Lake and State of 0010- rado, have invented a new and Improved Ore- Goncentrating J igger, of which the'following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved ore concentrating jigger which is simple in construction and operation.
The invention consists of the combinations of parts, including their construction, substantially as hereinafter explained, and pointed out in the claims,
Reference is to behad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved oreconcentrating jigger, parts being broken out. Fig 2 is a side view of the same with parts broken away and parts in section. Fig. 3 is a front end view of the same, parts being broken out. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line w x of Fig. 1.
The box A is provided with the corner uprights, B, united by the base-bars B and the top end pieces, B, in which latter a shaft, 0,
is j ournaled and on which are mounted the fixed and loose belt-pulleys O O at one end and the belt-pulley O at the opposite end.
The box A is provided with a longitudinal partition, D, which divides it into two sections, D and D the section D being divided by a partition, E, into compartments E and E, the former having a top, E.
In the compartments E and E the plungers F and F fit closely, and are adapted to work up and down, and are connected with piston-rods G and G operated by eccentrics H and H on the shaft 0, which is arranged centrally and longitudinally above the section D. Each plunger is provided with ports F, closed by valves G, pivoted to the under sides of the plungers.-
In the partition D two ports, H, are formed for each section E and E and are closed by valves J, which are held closed by springs K, secured to the said valves and to the side of the box, the said valves being adapted to open into the section D. I
On the discharge end of the box a trough, L, is formed, which is provided with a semipartition, L forming two channels, L and L which conduct the water into the-compartments E and E, respectively, the water pass- V ing into the compartment E, passing over the top E of the compartment E.
In the bottom of the trough L a small gutter, M, is formed from which a conveyertube, 0, is inclined upward, containing a conveyerscrew, 0, driven by a bevel cog-wheel, 0", engaging with a bevel-pinion, N, on one end of a shaft, N, provided with a belt-pulley, N over which a belt passes from the pulley G on the shaft 0.
In the bottom of the section D two hoppers,
P, are formed, having openings at the bottoms closed by valves v]? on screws I.
Above the hoppers bars Q are arranged longitudinally and edgewise, and have their upper edges tapered or beveled, and support a strong screen, R. No transverse bars are provided, and the bars Q have their top edges beveled, so that no resistance is offered to the movement of the ore 011 the screen, and no ore can accumulate on the top edges of the said bars Q.
At the end of the screen It a downward-inclined spout, S, is formed, which can be closed by aswinging gate, S,having ahandle-lever, S. An angular or curved apron, T, of sheet'iron, which has its upper edge rested on the inner edge of gutter M, is about one-half inch above the screen and a short distance inward from the spout S.
The operation is as follows: The ore to be concentrated is placed upon the screen E, and the plungers F F are worked up and down from the shaft 0. In moving downward they force the water downward in the compartments E E and through the ports H, the valves J opening and the valves G closing automatically. The water is forced up through the screen It, and moves the ore gradually from the rear or left-hand end to the front or righthand end of the machine. The water flows from the section D into the trough L, and then flows through the channels L L into the compartments E E, and so on. The gangue passes up over the apron T and into the gutter M, and
is carried up and off by the conveyer O O. The concentrated ore passes under the bottom edge of the apron T into the space below it, and is discharged at suitable intervals through the spout S, the gate S being opened at suitable intervals.
The ore to be concentrated is fed upon the screen R at the front or left-hand end of the machine and passes out at the right-hand end.
The direction and courses of the water are indicated by the arrows. At suitable intervals the valves P are opened to permit the water to wash out the fine ore, sand, &c., that have passed through the screen and accumulated in the hoppers P. The jigger can be fed and the concentrated ore removed without requiring the machinery to be stopped. A spout, W, is formed at the upper end of the conveyer-tube, through which the tailings slide.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In an ore-concentrating jigger, the combination, with the box A, divided into the sections D D, ofthe plungers F F having ports F and valves G, and arranged in the section D, and the screen R in the section D, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In an ore-concentrating jigger, the combination, with the box A, divided into the sections D D by the partition D, of the plungers F F having valves, the screen R in the sectop E on the compartment E, the trough L, and
the screen R in the compartment D substantially as herein shown and described.
4. In an ore-concentrating jigger, the combination, with the box A, having communicating compartments, and the screen B, of the apron T, the gutter M, the conveyer O O, the trough L, and the semi-partition L arranged in the said trough and forming therein the channels L L the trough L connecting with the upper edge of the gutter M, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
5. An ore-concentrating jigger comprising the box A, the partitions D and E the top E, the plungers F F having valves, the valves J on the partition D, the springs K, the trough L, the gutter M, the conveyer O O, the spout S, the apron T, and the screen R, substantially as herein shown and described.
