(Cl. 211-13) The present invention relates to racks and holders for articles made of cloth and similar materials, and in particular a holder having opposed vertically disposed stringers with a stiffening rod or stick secured in the upper end and with a loop providing a hanger extended from the upper end.

The purpose of this invention is to provide a holder for how ties in which the ties may be run on stringers, and in which the stringers may be hung on a pin, hook or prong or folded or rolled and placed in a drawer or the like.

Holders of various types and designs have been provided for four-in-hand and bow ties and the ties have been retained in the holders by various means. However, substantially all holders of the present designs damage bow ties or are so arranged that it is difiicult to insert the ties in the holders or remove the ties from the holders.

With these thoughts in mind this invention contemplates a bow tie holder having a vertically disposed back and a front with a continuous slot or opening therein, in which edges at the sides of the slot and across the upper and lower ends of the holder are reinforced by channel shaped elements in which edges of the material are secured by stitching, and also in which a transversely disposed bar and a supporting loop are provided at the upper end.

The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide a bow tie holder in which bow ties are readily inserted and from which they are readily removed.

Another object of the invention is to provide a bow tie holder which is of relatively light weight construction.

Another important object of the invention is to provide a bow tie holder in which the ties are frictionally held.

It is yet another object of the present invention to provide a bow tie holder which may be folded or rolled with ties therein to protect the ties in storage or transportation.

A further object of the invention is to provide a bow tie holder which is of simple and economical construction.

Other and further objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following detailed description, drawings and claims, the scope of the invention not being limited to the illustration of the drawings as the drawings are only for the purpose of illustrating a method by which the principles of this invention can be applied.

Other embodiments of the invention utilizing the same or equivalent principles may be used and structural changes may be made as desired by those skilled in the art without departing from the present invention and the purview of the appended claims.

With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a sheet of material folded upon itself to form a back with spaced strips of material secured at the outer edges and across the upper and lower edges to the back, and in which the spaced inner edges of the strips of material are provided with binding forming stringers and the upper end is provided with a stiffening bar and hanger loop.

Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings wherein:

FIGURE 1 is a front elevational View of the bow tie holder showing a bow tie in the upper part thereof.

FIGURE 2 is a cross section through the lower edge of the holder taken on line 22 of FIGURE 1.

FIGURE 3 is a sectional View through the upper part of one side of the holder taken on line 3-3 of FIGURE 1, with the parts shown on an enlarged scale.

FIGURE 4 is an edge elevational view of the improved bow tie holder on a reduced scale showing the holder rolled with bow ties therein wherein the ties are protected for storage or transportation.

While one embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the above-referred-to drawings, it is to be understood that they are merely for the purpose of illustration and that various changes in construction may be resorted to in the course of manufacture in order that the invention may be utilized to the best advantage according to circumstances which may arise, without in any way departing from the spirit and intention of the device, which is to be limited only in accordance with the appended claims. And while there is stated the primary field of utility of the invention it remains obvious that it may be employed in any other capacity wherein it may be found applicable.

In the accompanying drawings, and in the following specification, the same reference characters are used to designate the same parts and elements throughout and in which the numeral 10 refers to the back of the improved bow tie holder and numerals 12 and 14 spaced strips at the sides of the front providing a vertically disposed slot 16 through which bow ties 18 are inserted in and removed from the holders.

The back 10 of the holder is provided with an outer layer of material 20, and an inner layer of material 22, and these layers are folded at the sides at the

24 and 26, to provide the spaced strips 12 and 14.

The quilted material gives the holder a body of substantial thickness and rigidity and thereby protects ties inserted in the holder.

Inner edges of the strips 12 and 14 are provided with binding 42 and 44 which forms stringers, and gives the stringers sufilcient stiffness to receive the clips 46 of the bow ties whereby bow ties may readily be carried by, placed on, and removed from the stringers.

The upper and lower edges of the spaced strips 12 and 14 and

20 and 22 of the back and also of the quilted layers, are covered with U-shaped binding 48 and 50 and the loop or hanger 52 is secured in the upper binding 48, as shown in FIGURE 1.

A stiffening or reinforcing bar 54 may be provided in the upper portion of the bow tie holder, and the bar, which is positioned between the layers of material of the back is retained in position by an upper row of stitching 56 and a lower row 58.

Operation In use the improved bow tie holder of the present invention may be suspended by the loop 52 with the body portion of the holder hanging downwardly, and with the loop placed over a hook, pin, or other support and in placing bow ties in the holder, clips 46 are pressed over the binding 42 and 44 whereby spring or tension inherent in the clips retains the ties in vertically disposed position. The inner edges of the stringers are spaced to correspond with the ends of a collar of a conventional shirt so the clips will remain in place in the holder.

With the parts assembled as illustrated and described a sturdy, flexible and attractive bow tie holder is provided, and with the ties clipped on the holder in the same manner as they are held on a shirt they are maintained in good condition and always ready to use.

The holder may be placed in a drawer or it may hang on a wall or on the inside of a door such as a closet door.

From the foregoing description, it is thought .to be obvious that a bow tie holder constructed in accordance with this invention is particularly well adapted for use, by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that, the invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof, and for this reason itis not desired to be limited to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying outthe invention in practice, except as claimed.

What is claimed is: I

1. In a bow tie holder, the combinationlwhich comprises a body portion normally disposed parallel to a vertical wall, spaced strips of material positioned onsaid body'portion and secured thereto at their outer, upper and lower edges, said spaced strips being spaced to receive clips of a bowtie, eye-forming means in an end of said bow portion, said eye-forming means having 'an opening, therethrough extending. transverse to said body portion when the latter is disposed generally parallel to a vertical wall, said holder being sufiiciently flexible as o be rollable into a rolled configuration, said eye-forming means not being so large and stiff as to prevent rolling of said holder into a roll.

2. The combination of claim 1 in which said body portion is disposed in a rolled configuration.

Claims

1. IN A BOW TIE HOLDER, THE COMBINATION WHICH COMPRISES A BODY PORTION NORMALLY DISPOSED PARALLEL TO A VERTICAL WALL, SPACED STRIPS OF MATERIAL POSITIONED ON SAID BODY PORTION AND SECURED THERETO AT THEIR OUTER, UPPER AND LOWER EDGES, SAID SPACED STRIPS BEING SPACED TO RECEIVE CLIPS OF A BOW TIE, EYE-FORMING MEANS IN AN END OF SAID BOW PORTION, SAID EYE-FORMING MEANS HAVING AN OPENING THERETHROUGH EXTENDING TRANSVERSE TO SAID BODY PORTION WHEN THE LATTER IS DISPOSED GENERALLY PARALLEL TO A VERTICAL WALL, SAID HOLDER BEING SUFFICIENTLY FLEXIBLE AS TO BE ROLLABLE INTO A ROLLED CONFIGURATION, SAID EYE-FORMING MEANS NOT BEING SO LARGE AND STIFF AS TO PREVENT ROLLING OF SAID HOLDER INTO A ROLL.
