TUBE-SHEET FOR STEAM-BOILERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 330,127, dated November 1 0, 1885.
Serial No. 159,897. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM KENT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey (Jity, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tube-Sheets for Boilers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appcrtains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain novel and useful improvements in tube-sheets for steamboilers, and has forits object to provide a tubesheet into which the inclined tubes maybe expanded, so as to project from the sheet at right angles; and with these ends in view my invention consists in the details of construction hereinafter fully described, and specifically designated by the claim.
In order that those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may more fully understand the same, I will proceed to describe its construction, referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which Figure l is a front elevation of a tube sheet constructed in accordance with my improve ment, and Fig. 2 a vertical section of the same with the inclined Water-tubes expanded in the sheet.
Similar letters denote like parts in the several figures.
A is the tube-sheet, provided with openings B, formed by depressing the stock of the sheet more at the bottom than at the top by a suitable die, and then piercing. The openings thus formed will be in a plane parallel with the plane of the end of the water-tubes C, so that the latter will enter the sheet at right angles.
I preferably form the tube-sheet by compressing a plain sheet between suitable dies, either simple or multiple.
\Vhat I claim as new is A tube-sheet for boilers, constructed with inclined water-tubes, having the tube holes formed within depressions that are inclined at the same angle with that of the tubes, whereby the latter may project at right angles from that part of the sheet within which they are expanded, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I my signature in presence of two witnesses.
VVILLIAMI KENT.
