Description

NTTE STATES ENOOH COVERT, OF FARMER VILLAGE, NEW YORK.
MEAT-SLICER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 329,818, dated November 3, 1885.
Application filed March 31, 1885.
.T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ENOCH COVERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Farmer Village, in the county of Seneca and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Meat-Slicers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein-to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in meat-slicers, and is designed to produce a device simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture, and easily operated, for the purpose of cutting slices of any desired thickness from meat, vegetables, bread, or the like.
In describing the device reference is had to the annexed drawings, showing in Figure 1 a side elevation of the device, and Fig. 2 a cross-section of the same; Fig. 3, a section through 00 a: of Fig. 2.
A base, A, of suitable material and preferably rectangular in shape, supports a post or standard, B, near one end, and at or near one of the longer sides of said base. To the top or upper end of this standard, on one side, is pivoted the integral arm 0 of a knife-holding frame, D, having its free end formed into a handle, E. The arm 0 bends downward from the pivotal point in such a manner that the frame D is more or less nearly parallel with the edge of the base, and hence in operation a long shear cut is the result. Through suitable shoulders o'r enlargements, I, on the knife-frame pass headed screws G, carrying at the outer end thumb-nuts G. The heads of the screws rest in countersunk holes in the knife-blade F, which is adjusted nearer to or farther from the frameD by means of interposed washers F, the number or thickness thereof, or both, regulating said adjustment. Between the said shoulders I the frame is formed of the upwardly and outwardly projecting flange H and an integral downward projection, I.
Serial No. 160,818. (No model.)
The flange, as shown, projects about half as high as the top of the knife, forming a throat between the two, and carrying the slice as cut upward, supporting it till the cut is finished and preventing its breakage from its own weight.
The part I is wider at the end toward the pivot than near the handle, thus forming a rest that will evenly support the frame and guard the edge of the knife.
The frame and knife slant somewhat from the vertical, as shown in Fig. 2, so as to always keep in engagement with the article being cut.
The operation is apparent from the above.
I claim 1. In a slicer, a knife-frame and knife secured thereto, said frame being provided with a flange extending upwardly and outwardly from the knife-edge, and thus forming a throat between the said knife and flange, substantially as specified.
2. In a slicer, a knife-frame and a knife secured thereto, said frame having an integral flange projecting upwardly and outwardly from the knife-edge and a downward integral continuation wider at one end than at the other, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
8. Aslieer consisting of abase, a post erected thereon, a knife-frame and knife secured thereto, said frame having an upwardly-extended integral arm pivoted to the upper portion of the post, and upwardly and outwardly inclined integral flange forming a throat between said flange and knife, and a downward continuation of said frame wider at one end than at the other, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ENOOH COVERT. Witnesses:
