Description

UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEioE.
JOSHUA REGES'IER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
STREET-WASHER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 32,893, dated July 23, 1861; Reissued June 20,
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSHUA REGESTER, of Baltimore city and State of Maryland, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Constructing Street-/Vashers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure l is a sectional elevation of the stop cock, and rising pipe or conduit. Fig. 2, is an elevation of one half of the box. Fig. 3, a side elevation of the whole put together. Fig. t a top view showing the catches for turning the same. Fig. shows the cap for closing the top, and Fig. 6, a top view with the cap removed.
The object of my improvement is to manufacture a more durable and efficient street washer, by so constructing and arranging the case surrounding the stop cock, upright outlet branch and inlet pipe; that strength and permanency of position may be given all the parts by the case, while the cost of construction shall not be increased, but on the contrary diminished and practicability insured-still more the liability of injury by displacement of frost, affecting the relation of the parts to each other and the pavement is not overlooked. All these objects I accomplish by making an ironcase as hereinafter described, so divided vertically as the best and most convenient form, that the seat or body of the stop cock, its plug and outlet pipe and the inlet branch of the cock may be all placed in such a position and sustained by and in said case; all this arrangement and construction being done at the manufactory, leaving nothing to be done further than the attachment to the head pipe from a main by ordinary plumbing.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A is a cast iron box, made in halves, from one pattern, jointed together and bolted as shown. And furnished with a cap plate, covering the top (Fig. 5) to exclude dirt &c. when not used.
B is a tube, to the lower end of which is attached the key O of the stop cock D. The upper end of this tube is furnished with catches, as shown on Fig. 4;, to turn it by means of a wrench, so as to let on, and oif the water: the extreme end has a thread cut on it for hose attachment, to wash oftl the pavement, clean windows, or sprinkle the street Sac. as may be required. The projection on the stop cock is for connecting to the water pipe. This passes through aholeE, in one halfA of the box, thus preventing the cock from turning, while the whole is held in position by the collars F F when the box is bolted together. A waste hole is drilled at G to allow the water in the tube B to run out, when turned off, to prevent freezing. Thetravel of the catches (Fig. L1) is so arranged as to give turn, which will either turn the water on, and the waste oif, or vice versa. In the position shown on the drawing, the water is turned on, flowing in the direction indicated by the arrows, and the waste turned off.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A metallic casing A constructed as described provided with F F and E, as bearings, when employed and combined with a stop cock D and rod or tube B, all operating in the manner and for the purposes substantially set forth in the foregoing specification.
JOSHUA REGE STER.
