- Mounting plate 12 is also provided with two upstanding pins 18 located on the front face of the plate, and adapted to support a flap 20.

Maltenfort, Glen Farms, Md., assignor to Alexandria Silberman, Media, Pa. Filed Jan. 14, 1965, Ser. No. 425,532 3 Claims. (Cl. 98-119) This invention relates to a vent hood formed of a single unit of synthetic resin, produced by molding.
One object of the invention is to provide a vent hood for laundry driers and particularly suited to threaded connection with a flexible hose of the type described in my copending application Serial No. 354,719 filed March 25, 1964.
Another object is to provide a vent hood which although relatively light in weight, will retain its shape indefinitely.
Still another object is to provide a vent hood which is adapted to be connected to a laundry drier exhaust hose by an air tight threaded connection.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a hood in which a flapper operates free from any impairment due to deformation of the hood or ageing of a spring.
A further object is to provide a vent hood of pleasant appearance which does not rust or lose its color with age.
These and other objects will be further explained or will become apparent from the specification which follows, taken in conjunction with the drawings in which FIGURE 1 is a perspective of the vent hood of this invention;
FIGURE 2 is a front plan View;
FIGURE 3 is a side elevation;
FIGURE 4 shows the hood as seen from the rear;
FIGURE 5 is a section taken along 5-5 of FIGURE 2; and
FIGURE 6 shows a detail of the vent hood.
The vent hood 10 consists of a single piece of synthetic resin, molded in a blow molding machine from a single parison or 2 parallel flat sheets of polyolefin such as polyethylene or polypropylene or high impact, rigid vinyl polymers. Preferably vent hood 10 has an attractive pastel shade when blown in the blow molding process.
Spaced holes 22 are provided along the two sides of the mounting plate to receive screws or other suitable fastening means for securing the vent hood to an outside wall of a building.
Extending forwardly of the mounting plate 12 is a three sided tapered cowl 24 consisting of a front wall 26 ex- Patented Nov. 15, 1966 tending downwardly from the upper edge of the mounting plate and two side walls 28 also extending outwardly from the side edges of the mounting plate. Each of said side walls has a generally right triangular shape, the intersection with the front wall being one leg 30, and the intersection with the mounting plate being the hypotenuse,
the third side 32 constituting one of the slanting lower edges of the cowl.
Unlike prior vent hoods fabricated from sheets of metal, the molded hood of this invention is characterized by safe and aesthetically pleasing rounded contours, e.g., along intersection 30 and along the lower perimeter of the cowl which is turned slightly inwardly as shown at 36 to provide additional stitTness and to avoid a sharp edge which would cut or scratch a person reaching inside to adjust flap 20.
If desired, cowl 24 may be strengthened by stiifening l'lbS 38 shown in FIGURES 5 and 1.
It will be noted that by making the vent hood of a single piece of synthetic resin there is no leakage at the joint between the mounting plate 12 and the threaded extension 16 thereof onto which hose 4!) screws and that there is no mamtamence problem once the vent hood is mounted on the wall of a building and that fabrication by assembling various sections is not necessary.
Havingnow described preferred embodiments of my mventlon it is not intended that it be limited except as may be required by the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A vent hood including in a single unitary blow molded resin product:
a vent hood;
a mounting plate integral with and extending around the perimeter of the vent hood;
a threaded extension extending rearwardly from a centrally located opening in said mounting plate adapted to threadedly engage a hose to be attached thereto;
and means to support a moveable closure for said centrally located opening, said last named means being pm shaped extensions extending from and integral with said mounting plate, each extension having a knob at its outer extremity.
2. The vent hood of claim 1 wherein the synthetic resin is a thermoplastic resin.
3. The vent hood of claim 1 wherein the vent hood extends forwardly of said mounting plate and is inclined downwardly from adjacent the upper margin of said mounting plate.

Claims (1)
1. A VENT HOOD INCLUDING IN A SINGLE UNITARY BLOW MOLDED RESIN PRODUCT: A VENT HOOD; A MOUNTING PLATE INTEGRAL WITH AND EXTENDING AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE VENT HOOD; A THREADED EXTENSION EXTENDING REARWARDLY FROM A CENTRALLY LOCATED OPENING IN SAID MOUNTING PLATE ADAPTED TO THREADEDLY ENGAGE A HOSE TO BE ATTACHED THERETO; AND MEANS TO SUPPORT A MOVEABLE CLOSURE FOR SAID CENTRALLY LOCATED OPENING, SAID LAST NAMED MEANS BEING PIN SHAPED EXTENSIONS EXTENDING FROM AND INTEGRAL WITH SAID MOUNTING PLATE, EACH EXTENSION HAVING A KNOB AT ITS OUTER EXTREMITY.
