Description

Oct. 11, 1966 c. K. HEMMERLEIN 3,277,636
WALL TYPE DEHUMIDIFIER Filed Dec. 18, 1963 United States Patent Office 3,277,636 Patented Oct. 11, 1966 3,277,636 WALL TYPE DEHUMIDIFIER Catherine K. Hemmerlein, Rte. 1, Box 4, Tell City, Ind. Filed Dec. 18, 1963, Ser. No. 331,518 3 Claims. (Cl. 55388) This invention rel-ates to dehumidifying devices, and more particularly to a wall type dehumidifier.
It is a primary object of the present invention to provide a dehumidifier which will be used to replace expensive electric and fan type units designed to accomplish the same purpose.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a dehumidifier which may be maintained economically to allow several to be in operation simultaneously and will accomplish the result far more inexpensively than electric units.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a dehumidifier which may be suspended from the wall and will provide greater mobility than electric units and may be placed in areas where they are most needed and where there may not be electrical outlets.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a dehumidifier bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation and use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a side view of FIGURE 1 shown in elevation and partly in section;
FIGURE 3 is a top plan view of a support wall shown removed from the invention; and
FIGURE 4 is a rear view of the invention shown in elevation.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a Wall type dehumidifier made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a bracket 12 having a pair of parallel, spaced apart arcuate side walls 14 which are terminated by an elongated strip 16. Bracket 12 is provided with a rear wall 18 of rectangular configuration having an inverted keyhole opening 20 through its upper extremity which will receive a fastener to secure bracket 12 to a wall. A pair of parallel, U-shaped rails 22 on the inside of bracket 12 provide sliding means and retaining means for a drawer 24 of rectangular configuration, made of clear plastic material which serves as a trap for liquid and which will hereinafter be described. Drawer 24 is provided with a front knob 26 providing handle grip means for removing and replacing drawer 24 within bracket 12. A rectangular support panel 27 is fixedly secured to the interior of bracket 12 and is provided with a plurality of spaced apart abutments 28, one in each corner of panel 27, which hold a hollow, rectangular container 30 in position within bracket 12. A recessed opening 32 within support panel 27 receives a circular filter 34 and a neck 36 extending from support panel 27 provides a means for securing a hose, if desired, for the drain off of the dehumidifier 10. A plurality of radially spaced apart fiutes 38 angularly extend downwardly from the abutments 28 on panel 27 to provide means for draining the water toward the filter 34 and neck 36. The liquid exiting through neck 36 is received and collected within drawer 24. A plurality of spaced openings 40 through container 30 provide additional exposure of air to crystals 42 received within container 30. Crystals 42 are moisture-absorbing crystals, such as chloride of lime, granular activated carbon, calcium chloride or magnesium chloor the like.
In operation, bracket 12 is suspended from a nail, screw or other fastener secured within the wall by inserting the fastener into the opening 20 of rear wall 18 of bracket 12 to support the container 30. Crystals 42, being hygroscopic in nature, absorb water and water travels through filter 34 in the bottom support panel 27 and down into drawer 24. When drawer 24 gets fairly full of liquid, knob 26 is grasped and drawer 24 is slid along rails 22. Drawer 24 is then emptied, after which it is replaced within rails 22.
It will be noted that filter 34 may be made of a variety of porous materials which will permit water to go through but will hold back sediment.
While various changes may be made in the detail con struction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
