ELIAS KOHLER, OF YORK, PENNSYLVANIA.
CHECK-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 325,613, dated September 1, 1885.
Application filed April 27, W85. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELIAS KonLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Harness Saddles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in attachments toharness-saddles, and is designed to produce a check-rein hook and terret-support, with a removable seat on which is .a means for connecting the crapper-strap.
The improvement consists, essentially,of the hool ,formed substantially in the manner hereinafter described, combined with the seat, formed as shown and described.
In describing the device reference is had to the annexed drawing, showing a perspective view of the device, the parts being slightly separated.
A plate, A, has raised on one end a post,
13, in the top of which may be placed a terret.
On the other end is a shorter post, 0, having on its top an angle-extension, D, projecting toward the post B.
Between the extension D and the plate A is an upright roller, E, forming an anti-friction roller for the check-rein. The extension D has an upturned end, forming a bearing for a spring, F, which readily yields to the insertion of the rein, but prevents the accidental disengagement of the said rein.
On the saddle rests a plate, G, having a longitudinal channel, H, on its upper side. I n this channel rests the plate A, on the under side of which is a bolt, I, preferably squared through a portion of its length, and when the parts are in position passing through a squared hole in the plate G, and securing the whole firmly but removably to the harnesssaddle.
To what may properly be termed the rear end of the plate G is a loop, K, to which is 4 secured the crupper strap. The plate is firmly held in the groove or channel on the plate G and prevented from turning thereon. Should the loop K from any cause become broken or otherwise injured, so as to mar its usefulness, it may easily and cheaply be replaced, thus obviating the necessity of obtaining an entire new device.
I claim An improved cheek-rein hook consisting of 5 a plate having on it a post carrying a spring, a post having an extension on top, forming a bearing for the spring, a roller between the extension and the plate, and a plate with a longitudinal groove and an integral crupperloop at one end, said plate resting on top a harness-saddle and forming a removable seat for the hook proper, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature 6 in presence of two witnesses.
