No. 324,557. Patented Aug. 18, 1885.,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOsEPH HOLZGENs, OE LANGEEWEHE, rEUssIA, AssIGNOE To OTTO vorT AUW, OE EHEENEELD, GERMANY. y
HOLDER FOR NEEDLES AND OTHER OBJECTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 324,557, dated August 18, 1885.
Application ilcd Juno 14, 1884. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH HLZGENs, of Langerwehe, in Rhenish Prussia, Germany, have invented a new and Improved Holder ,j for Needles and other Objects, of which the following is a specification.
Needles, pencils, pen-holders, or other Objects, which are often fastened in series to cards of pasteboard, paper, or other substance,
to have heretofore usually been secured to such cards by threads of yarn, bands Ot' rubber, or the like, which arrangement has the disadvantage that upon the removal of onel or more of the Objects held by the same thread or band the remainder will be loosened and apt to fall from the card,` and that the objects fastened to the card will soon become stained at the points of contact with the thread.
My invention has for its object to overcome 2o both these disadvantages; and it consists in holding the needles or other articles in place by means of a wire which is bent in form of a spiral and inserted into and through openings in the card, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a face view of a card and fasteners involving my said invention. Fig. 2 is a back view ot` the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line c 0,'Fig. l. Fig. 4. is a face View of a 3o modified construction of the card. Fig. 5 is a back view of the card shown in Fig. l. Fig. (i is a cross-section on the line 7c k, Fig. l.
A in the drawings represents a card of pasteboard or other substance, to which the needles or articles B B are fastened by spiral wires D D. The card A may be provided with one or more rows of parallel slots, a (t, of the kind indicated in Figs. 1, 2 and 5, the several slots in each roW being substantially equally far apart from one another. The spirally-wound Wire 4o D is thereupon placed into and through the slots a a in such way that projecting loops b b will be formed by said wire on the face of the card A, while against the back of the said card the Wire will lie flat. The needles or other objects, B, which are to be held in place on the card are then passed through the said loops b b, the Wire being pulled tight and its ends bent or secured, so as to prevent it from slipping.
Instead of the slots a xa, double series of 5a equivalent holes d d may be formed in the card, as in Fig. 4, for the reception ofthe spiral wire.
|Ihe invention can be applied to cards having loops b b on both sides for holding Objects on both faces. Thewire being, substantially rigid will hold the articles in place, even if some of them have been removed from the card, and will always allow objects once-removed to be reinserted. As the wire does not 6o attract moisture it will not be apt to stain the articles B B.
I claim- A holder for needles and other objects, consisting of the spirally-wound wire D, in cornbination with the perforated'card A, said wire being arranged to form a series of loops, b b, as specified.
JOSEPH HOLZGENS.
