VANDIVER TEAGUE, OF LENOIR, NORTH CAROLINA.
FLOUR-BOLT REEL.
'SPECIFICATION 'forming part of Letters Patent No. 324,187,7dated August 11, 1885.
Application filed May 28, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VANDIvER TEAGUE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lenoir, in the county of Caldwell and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flour-Bolt Reels; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part or' this specification, and to the letters and figures yof reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side elevation of my improved flour-'bolt reel. Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively the head and tail ends of the reel, and Fig. 4 a detail view on an enlarged scale, showing the means employed for preferred, heavy cloth or canvas may be used,"
A tightening the bolting-cloth.
The presentinvention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in iiour-bolt reels; and it consists in the details of construction and combination of parts, substantially as shown in the drawings, and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the head of the reel, which supports one end of the usual longitudinal bars forming a part of the frame. These bars are formed of tWo seotions, a b, between which are clamped and held the edges of the pieces of cloth forming the sections of the reel. Theepieces of cloth near their outer edges are secured to strengthening-V strips c, of wood or other material, and, if
as found desirable. The sections a b of the bars are firmly held together by screws or other suitable fastenings, and their rear ends are rabbeted, as shown at d, to rest in slots e in the head A. The rabbeted ends of thebars have secured thereto angle-plates B, one portion of each plate overlapping and coming flush against the head A, and has an elongated slot, f, through which passes a suitable clamping thumb-screw, g, which enters the head. The radial spokes h, extending from the usual shaft, C, pass up through holes i in the clampingbars, and over cach one of these holes i is secured a bushing,`D, having a screw-threaded opening, which registers with the hole in the bar. A screw, E, passes through the screwthreaded hole in the bar, and the end thereof bears against the end of the spoke h. .When
the cloth on the reel or any section thereof becomes slack or sags, it may be quickly and conveniently tightened by first loosening the screw g and afterward screwing down the screws E, the latter acting as levers and the spokes h as fulcrums to force up the clampingbars, and after the cloth has been sufficiently tightened the bars are held stationary by screwing up the thumb-screw g against the plate B.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
fA ilourbolt reel consisting of a central shaft having radial spokes, longitudinal bars formed in sections, the bolting-cloth, bushings, and screws for tighteningl the cloth, slotted angleplates, and thumbscrewsV for connecting the ends of the bars to the reel-head, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
-In testimony. that Iclaim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in thc presence of two witnesses.
VANDIVER TEAGUE.
