HORACE E, LONG, OE WORCESTER, AND EEl VIN L. HILL, OF EST UPTON, MASSACHUSETTS; SAID LONG ASSIGNOR TO SAID HILL.
MiLK-AERATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 310323347, dated July 28, 1885.
Application filed March 14, 1885.
To all 2072,0722. it may concern/.-
Be it known that we, HORACE B. LONG, of Worcester, and EnwiN L. HILL, of West Upton, in the county of \Vorccster and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improve ment in Milk-Aerators, of which the following is a specification.
The object of our invention is to provide an apparatus by means of which a uniform current of air may be forced into and through the milk, for cooling the same and driving oil" the obnoxious odors, and also to furnish an air'delivering rose or nozzle,- the interior of which is made readily accessible for the purpose of cleaning; and our invention consists in the combination of the rose or nozzle, with two oppositely-moving bellows and a bellowschamber, and also in the construction of the rose or nozzle in hinged sections, as hereinafter set forth.
Figure l is a central vertical section of the bellows portion of the apparatus, the mill:- can under the machine being broken away in order to show our improved rose or nozzle in elevation. 2 is a vertical section taken princi ially in the line :0 :0 of Fig. 1, the'niilkcan under the machine being shown in elevation. Fig. 3 is apcrspective view of the rose or nozzle as opened for the purpose of cleaning.
In the accompanying drawings, A is the box which serves to inclosc and cover thebellows, and B B the legs, which are preferably made of sutlicient length to allow the insertion of the milk-can C under the box A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. To the bottom to within the box A. is secured the standard b,to the upper portion of which is pivoted the hand-lever c, passing outward through a slot made in the side d of thc'box. At the under side of the bottom a are secured the oppositely moving bellows e c, which are opcratively connected to the hand-lever c by means ot' the connectingrods f f.
The bottom board, a, is provided with the two valved-openings g g, through which the air drawn into the bellows e 0 will be forced (No model.)
into the bellows-chamber h, located at the upper side of the bottom board a, within the box, and centrally of the bottom board is secured the downwardly-dirccted eductiontube 1 through which the air can pass to the attached flexible tube j, and thence to the upwardly-peri'oratcd rose or nozzle D, which consists, essentially, of the tube 0, the perfo- 5 5 rated hollow-formed plate It, attached to the tube 0, and the covering-plate Z, which is hinged to the plate It at the point m, and also provided with a rim, 1), which is adapted to inclose the boundary edge of the plate It. A snapcatch, a, is also attached to either of the plates is or Z, and serves to hold the plates iirmly'together when in use, thus causing the air from the bellows to issue from the perforatious smof the plate 7c in small jets, and to pass upward through the mill; in the can 0, thus cooling and aerating the same and at the same time removing all obnoxious odors.
The plates and Zheing hinged to each other the inner face of the plates will be reu 7o dered readily accessible for the purpose of cleaning the same, which is a very essential matter in a milk-aerating apparatus.
By means of the bellows-chamber h a uniform continuous stream of air will be forced 7 5 through the perforations of the rose or n0zzle upon the proper up-and-down movement of the hand-lever c.
o claim as our invention 1. The combination of the handlever c, the oppositely-moving bellows e e, the receiving bcllowschainber It, ilcxible'tubej, perforated conical plate It, and hinged covering plate I, all arranged and operating substantially as described.
2. The milk aerating rose or nozzle, consisting of the tube 0, perforated conical plate it, and covering-plate l, hinged to the plate It, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
HORACE B. LONG. ERW'IN L. HILL. it-messes:
P. SIMPsoN, HENRY W. KING.
