HIMAN G. DEXTER, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
SCRAPER ATTACHMENT FOR REMOVING CALCIMlNE AND THE LIKE FROM CEILINGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 323,123, dated July 28, 1885.
(No model.)
I clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved scoop or receptacle for receiving the scrapings of calcimine, &c., while scraping the calcimine from ceilings, which device is light, simple in construction, and
can be folded very compactly.
The invention consists in the combination, with a stick, of'an inverted umbrella held on the same in the manner that will be fully described and set forth hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a plan view of my improved scraper. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are plan views of the modifications.
Umbrella ribs A, of any well-known construction, are hinged to a sleeve, B, mounted to slide on a rod, 0, having a spi'ingcatch, D, and the ribs are connected by braces E with a ring, F, secured and fixed on the upper end of the rod 0. A covering, N of fabric of any suitable kind is secured on the frame.
The frame may be made circular, with a part, M, out out, as shown in Fig. 1, or it may be oblong, as shown in Fig. 3, or may have i,
the shape ofa dust-pan, as shown in Fig. 4; but in all cases the frame is adapted to fold against the stick in the same manner as an umbrella-frame, the sleeve B sliding downward and the ring F remaining fixed.
\Vhen the frame is spread, the fabric and frame form a cup-shaped scoop or receptacle, which can be held by means of the stick or rod 0 directly below that part of the ceiling that is being scraped, so that the scrapings must drop into the said receptacle, and cannot drop upon and soil the floor.
As the implement is very light, it can be held easily by the operator. It can be folded very compactly when not in use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with a stick, of an in verted umbrella on the same, the ring to which the braces are pivoted being fixed on the stick, and the sleeves to which the ribs are hinged being mounted to slide on the stick, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination, with the stick 0, of the catch D, the sliding sleeve B, the ribs A, hinged to the sleeve, the braces E, pivoted to the ribs and to a ring fixed on the end of the stick, and of a fabric or other covering on the frame, substantially as herein shown and described.
HTMAN O. DEXTER.
