Ringger, Richton Park, and Shepard Whitman, Chicago, Ill., assignors to Slick Industrial Company, Chicago Heights, Ill., a corporation of Delaware Filed May 18, 1964, Ser. No. 368,274 6 Claims. (Cl. 312-234) This invention relates to display cases or units and more particularly to self-service cases for displaying groups of roller window shades or the like of different size and character in vertical disposition in front and rear tiers.
One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a display case of the character described which effectively segregates shades of a particular size or length in such manner that they are readly visible and accessible to a purchaser in the store or the like where the case is located.
Another object of the invention is to provide a display case which will enable the rearmost row of shades to be supported in position above other rows of shades.
A further object of the invention is to provide a selfservice display unit of the kind described and including adjustable support means which can be so positioned that shades of different length may be supported so that their upper ends are at substantially the same level.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a display case of the character described which can be very economically manufactured and assembled.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be pointed out specifically or will become apparent from the following descriptionwhen it is considered in conjunction with the appended claims and the accompanying drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front perspective view of a window shade display case constructed in accordance with the invention;
FIGURE 2 is an end elevational view thereof;
FIGURE 3 is a rear elevational view thereof;
FIGURE 4 is a top plan view thereof; and
FIGURE 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of FIGURE 4. 2
The display case comprises a pair of spaced apart, parallel end walls andll joined to :one another at a spaced distance from the front edges thereof by an upstanding, downwardly inclined wall 12. The end walls 10 and 11 are notched as at 9 at their lower front edges to provide toe space. A rearwardly and downwardly inclined floor 13 spans the distance between the end walls to support the lower ends of window shades S which may he stood on end in upright, rearwardly leaning positions against the wall 12.
The wall 12 is provided with a plurality of laterally spaced openings through each of which extends a rearwardly projecting arm 8 of a wire rod divider member generally designated 14. Each member 14 includes an upwardly extending arm 7 and an arm 6 which parallels and is substantially coextensive in length with the arm 7. The arms 6, 7 and 8 form a channel-shaped portion 15 projecting forwardly from the wall 12. Adjacent members 14 form compartments C for the reception of shades S. The terminal end of each arm 8 may be secured in position in the wall 12 in any suitable manner, such as by threading the ends of the rods 14 and securing them with nuts 16.
Each wire rod member 14 includes an upwardly extending run 17 which is bent upwardly from the end of the arm 6 and which bears on the front surface of the wall 12. At its upper end, each run 17 is bent to form ice a run 18 that extends rearwardly and substantially horizontally through an opening 19 in the wall 12.
Rearwardly of the wall 12 is one or more short partitions. In the disclosed embodiment there are two such partitions 21, and through each of which each run 18 extends. The partitions 21 are secured to and span the end walls 10 and 11 and form, with the rod portions 18, a plurality of compartments C for rolled window shades of different size and character.
Window shades are manufactured in different widths and it is desirable to support them in the compartments C in a manner such that they project above the end walls 10 and ll and are supported at about the same level so they may be readily visible and accessible. Provided on the end walls 10 and 11 are hook-shaped supporting strips 22 disposed under both the front and rear compartments C. The members 22 are adapted removably to receive trays 24 and 25 which have dependent side flanges 24a and 25a. As will be apparent from FIGURE 5, wherein shades S are shown in diagrammatic lines in display position, the trays 24 and 25 may be removed from the particular hook strips 22 which are supporting them and adjusted vertically, if desired, to support different length roller window shades at any level necessary to enable their upper ends to be visible and accessible.
The disclosed embodiment is representative of a presently preferred form of the invention but is intended to be illustrative rather than definitive thereof. The invention is defined in the claims.
We claim:
1. A window shade or the like display case comprising: spaced apart end members; a first inclined partition wall spanning said end members between the front and rear edges thereof; a second partition spanning said end members rearward of said first partition; floor means spanning said end members at the front ends thereof; and a plurality of divider rod members mounted in transversely spaced relation on said first partition and having loopshaped portions projecting forwardly thereof to define separate compartments for various window shades stacked on end on said floor means, said rod members having portions extending upwardly along the front face of said first partition wall from the upper end of said loop-shaped portions and thence extending rearwardly through said first partition wall to secure said second partition to form additional rear compartments with said second partition.
2. The apparatus set forth in claim 1 including a plurality of pairs of vertically spaced support brackets; tray means supported by said end members substantially under said second partition rearwardly of said first partition;
and tray means selectively received on only one pair of said brackets to receive the ends of vertically disposed shade rollers.
3. The construction set forthin claim 1 wherein each loop portion of said divider members includes a rod member having a lower arm extending forwardly from said partition, an upstanding arm joined to the forward end of said lower arm, and an upper arm joined to the upper end of said upstanding arm and extending rearwardly toward said partition.
4. The construction set forth in claim 1 including an additional upright partition supported by said end walls, the extension of each of said rod members extending through said additional partition to form additional compartments. 4
5. The combination defined in claim 3 in which the lower arm of each rod extends from the rear face of said first partition, and means is provided for anchoring it thereto.
6. A window shade or the like display case comprising: spaced apart end members; a first inclined partition wall spanning said end members between the front and rear edges thereof; second partition means spanning said end members rearward of said first partition; floor means spanning said end members at the front ends thereof; a plurality of divider members mounted in transversely spaced relation on said first partition and having portions projecting forwardly thereof to define separate compartments for various window shades stacked on end on said floor means, divider member portions secured to said second partition to form additional rear compartments with said second partition; vertically spaced pairs of tray support means on said end members rearwardly of said first partition; and tray means selectively received on only one pair of said support means to receive the ends of vertically disposed shade rollers in said rear compartments.
