UNITED STATES JOSEPH PAILLET,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF DELAWARE, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HERMANN HISS, OF SAME PLACE.
SASH-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,553, dated July 2]., 1885.
Application filed February 2, 1883. (No model.)
1" 0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JosEPH PAILLET, a citi- 'zen of the United States, residing at Delaware, in the county of Delaware and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Window-Sash Locks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to locking devices for window-sashes; and it consists in an improved construction of sash-lock, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a part of a lower window-sash provided with niyimproved locking device. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 show the lock mechanism in side and plan views. Fig. 5 is a side View of the lookingbolt. Fig. 6 is a view of the key. Fig. 7 illustrates in horizontal section the upper and lower sashes with the device applied thereto.
A designates the lower window-sash, the same being recessed to receive the lock placed therein, the plate B being fastened to the edge of the sash.
O is a plate which is attached to the upper sash, A, which receives the lock-boltD when the sashes are locked.
E is a frame extending inward from plate B, and carrying the bolt D and the arm or lever by which it is operated. The said bolt, being substantially in the form shown in the drawings, is provided with a diagonal slot, a, and is placed in position transversely of the sash and of frame E, with its extremities in corresponding apertures c in said frame.
F is an arm or lever, with its rear end fixed to a shaft, b, having its bearings in frame E, the forward end of the lever passing through the diagonal slot on in bolt D, and extending into a vertical slot, 0, in plate B.
As shown in Fig. 4, the shaft b has one end extended, and forms a stem or post, 01, where a key, G, may be applied, and the key being turned, the forward end of the lever is moved up or down, causing an outward or inward movement of the bolt, thus looking or unlocking the sashes.
I claim-- In a sash-locking device, in combination with frame E, slotted lock-bolt D, loosely supported therein, and the lever F on a shaft, and suitable means for turning said shaft. the said lever extending through slot at in the lock bolt, substantially as and for the purposes described.
Signed at Delaware, in the county of Delaware and State of Ohio, this 16th day of J annary, 1883.
JOSEPH PAILLET.
