T0 @ZZ 10710771, it 72mg/ conceive:
Beit known that I, FRITZ SAMUEL SvEN- soN, of Lund, in the Kingdom of Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Im proveinents in Lamps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object oi' my invention is to provide a new and improved lamp which can be lighted, extinguished, or cleaned without requiring the removal of the lamp chimney and globe, whereby the said parts are less apt to be broken and the lamp can be handled much more easily.
The invention consists of the combinations 3 of parts, includingthcir construction, substantially ashereinatter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, foriningpart of this specification, in which Figure lis a vertical sectional eleva tion oi' my improved lamp, and Fig. 2 is also a sectional view with the i'onnt in its lowered position, said section being taken at right angles to the section of Fig. I.
rEhe foot A or" the lamp, made of metal, is provided with the base A, and at its top with the arm or casting B. In the middle of the foot a vertical cylindrical hole, C, is formed, which does not extend entirely through the `l'oot, but stops a short distance from the bottoni.
At the top of the casting or rim B two or more diametrieally opposite upwardly projecting arms or supports, D, are fastened by screws and carry Aor are secured to a socket or ring, E, in which the lamp-chimney and the globe are held. The oil reservoirs or fount F is provided with the burner-tube G, which is conical at the top and xed by screws on the open work or perforated metal socket G. A tube, H, is fixed by means of screws or otherwise to the bottoni of the fount and projects downward into the cylindrical aperture G in the foot. A spiral spring, J, is placed in the tube H and in the apei ture C, its upper end resting against the bottom of the iount and its lower end resting on the bottom of the hole C, which spring presses the top of the fount against the socket G. The downwardly-projccting flange or bell-shaped cap K on the upper end of the tube H serves to hide the tube and give` the lamp a nice finish. The tube H has a longitudinal slot, L, into which a lug, M, projects, which is `formed at the upper end ot' the aperture C. At the top of the slot the lateral recesses N are formed in the tube H. TWhen the lamp is to belighted or the fount illed, c., the f'onnt is pressed down until the upper end of the slot L is at the stud or lng M, when the tube H and the fount F are turned on their vertical central axis, thereby bringing the stud or lng M into one of the notches or recesses N, and thus locking the fount and tube in the lowered position. The burner G 'is moved downward with the fount, the socket G remaining on the ring E, and the burner can then be unserewed very easily for filling the fount, or the wick can be trimmed, lighted. The globe, the chimney, and the socket G remain raised. The ount and tube H are then turned to bring the slot L in line with the lug M, and the pressure on the fount removed, whereupon the spring J moves the fount upward and presses its top against the socket G.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I. In a lamp-holder, the combination, with the foot A, having an aperture, G, of the fount F, having a downwardly-projecting tube, H, working in the aperture C, the spring J in the tube H, and aperture C, and aiixed globe and chimney-holder connected with the foot, substantiall y as herein shown and described.
2. In alanip, the combination, with the foot A, having a vertical aperture, C, of the fount F, the tubeH, having alongitudinal slot, L,and notches N at the upper end of the slot, the lug or stud M on the foot, the spring J, and a fixed globe and chimney-holder connected with the foot, substantially as herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my naine in presence of two subscribing witnesses. Y
FRITZ SAMUEL SVENSON.
