Description
REMOVABLE CLOSURE FOR A CYLINDRICAL CONTAINER FOR SWEETS Filed Aug. 6, 1963 FIB 1 F'IELEI Wl/I/Im F'IEIS IN VEN TOR.
BY M at United States 3,204,359 REMQVABLE QLOSURE FUR A CYLHNDRICAL CONTAINER F913 SWEETS Masachi Kurokawa, Nalrano-ltu, Tokyo, Japan, assignor to Messrs. Morinaga Confectionery Company Limited,
Tokyo, Japan Filed Aug. 6, 1963, Ser. No. 300,379 ll Claim. (tCl. id-307) The present invention relates to a removable closure for the open end of a cylindrical container for sweets.
It is one object of the present invention to provide a removable closure for the open end of a cylindnical container for sweets which comprises a body formed of resilient material such as synthetic plastics or rubber and adapted to be force fitting in the open end of a container, the Wall of which is formed with an annular groove which receives by a snapping action a disc bearing letters or a decorative design. The bottom face of the disc is coated with a permanent adhesive covered by a removable sheet of paper and the disc is readily removable from the end closure by bending the rim of the recess radially outwardly to permit the disc to be lifted out.
it is another object of the present invention to provide a removable closure for the open end of a cylindrical container for sweets which includes a disc removable from the end closure, which disc forms upon removal a badge which will be pleasing to a child, and if a sheet of paper is peeled ofr the adhesive layer of the disc, the latter will be still tacky, so that the badge can be stuck to another object.
With these and other objects in view, which will become apparent in the following detailed description, the present invention will be clearly understood in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is an elevation, partly in section, of an end closure according to one embodiment of the present invention assembled in the open end of a sweet container;
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the end closure;
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary view of part of the disc-like badge which is to be fitted into the end closure; and
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary vertical cross-section of the top portion of FIG. 1, shown at an enlarged scale.
Referring now to the drawings, the device comprises a cylindrical container 1 for sweets which is open at one end. A removable end closure 2 for insertion into the open end of the container 1 is provided and comprises a hollow body 2a, the peripheral wall of which hollow body 2a is provided with an annular groove 4 defined by a resilient lip 3, and a shoulder 5 formed on an inner cross wall of the hollow body 2a.
The hollow body 2a of the end closure is made of resilient material such as synthetic plastics or rubber, and a disc 6 is snapped into the annular groove 4. The disc 6 bears a letter or decorative design, and the inner face of the disc 6 is coated with a layer 7 of synthetic adhesive of Patented Sept. 7, 1965 the kind adapted to remain permanently tacky, the layer 7 being covered by a sheet of paper 8.
The hollow body 2a with the disc 6 assembled therein forms the end closure of the container 1, and when in position makes a friction fit in the open end of the container 1.
When the contents of the container 1 have been disposed of, the disc 6 can be removed and be used as a badge. The disc 6 is readily removable by bending the flexible lip 3 radially outwardly, to enable the disc 6 to be lifted up and out. If the cover sheet of paper 8 is pealed off to expose the permanent tacky adhesive coating or layer 7, the latter will serve to enable the disc-like badge to be stuck to another object.
While I have disclosed one embodiment of the present invention, it is to be understood that this embodiment is given by example only and not in a limiting sense, the scope of the present invention being determined by the objects and the claim.
I claim:
A removable end closure for a cylindrical container for sweets comprising a cylindrical body of resilient material having a bottom wall and a peripheral wall adapted to be force fitting- -ly received in the open end of a container,
said cylindrical body being hollow, and having a closed bottom wall,
said peripheral wall of said cylindrical body having a circular inwardly extending lip at its upper end and an intermediate recessed cross wall axially spaced apart from said lip to define an annular groove therebetween,
a disc bearing a design on one of its faces and received snappingly and removably in said annular groove of said peripheral wall and the inner of its faces having a layer of adhesive,
a sheet of paper removably engaging said layer of adhesive on said disc,
said disc being removable from said groove of said cylindrical body upon bending said lip of the latter radially outwardly, and
said bottom wall serving as a closing means for the open end of said container.
