RAIL VAY-SWITCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,397, dated June 16, 1885.
Application filed April 20, 1885.
To all whom lit ymay concern:
Be it known that 1, SAMUEL Rrrcnin, of Vausan, in the county of Marat-hon, and in the State of Viseonsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Railway- Switches, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to railway-switches, and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure lA is a plan view showing one application of my device. Fig. 2 is a like view showing another application ofthe saine; and Fig. 3 is a section on line .r a, Fig. 2.
ln Fig. l, A A A2 are the rails ofthe stationary portion of the main track, and B is the movable portion. G C C are the switch-rails. At the intersection of the lines of the rails A A C C is placed a turn-table, D, carrying a single rail, D, and this is connected with a shaft, E, by a lever, F, that is pivoted to a tie at F', so that when the track B is shifted by means of the shaft Il the turn-table will be shifted with it.
In Fig. l the inain track is shown as open in full lines, while the dotted lines show the (No model.)
' position ofthe parts when the switch is open and the main track closed.
In Fig. 2 several tracks are shown as connected by my device. The turn-table differs from that shown in Fig. l only in having two rails instead of one, and as the tracks in Fig. 2 are all fixed the turntable is operated by a lever, G, and locked by an ordinary hasp and staple. My device does away with the necessity of frogs and greatly facilitates the work of switching trains.
' Having thus fully described niy invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the intersecting rails, of a turn-table, switching rail or rails carried thereby, a lever, F, and shifting-shaft, as set forth. Y
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Wausau, in the county of Marathon and State of lNrisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL RITCHIE.
