' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES E. JUDD, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOB TO BISSELL CARPET SWVEEPEB COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
SHOW STAND AND BACK FOR DISPLAYING CARPET-SWEEPERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,362, dated June 16, 1885.
Application filed December 29, 1884. (N model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES B. JUDD, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Grand liapids, Kent county, Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Show Stands and Racks for Displaying Carpet-Sweepers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to show stands or racks for the exhibition and advertisement of to merchantable articles, and the purpose thereof is to furnish a display-stand for carpetsweepers which will aid the dealer in exhibiting and selling such articles, while at the same time it afi'ords support for the handles and gives space for a show-card or for such advertising matter as may be suitable for the purpose.
The invention consists in the several parts and combinations of parts hereinafter set forth, and definitely pointed out in the claims annexed to this specification.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a detail section. Fig. 4 is a side ele' vation illustrating a modification.
In the said drawings, the reference-numeral 1 denotes the frame or upright portion of the rack, which may be made of wood in any suitable manner. This frame is composed,
o essentially, of two vertical standards, which may be connected by a crossbrace, 2, which forms part of a rack located at one end of said standards, the latter being united at the other end by a cross-strip, 3, of any suitable size,
5 which may also be utilized for the display of any advertising matter. Upon the uprights of the stand are mounted shelves 4, supported by a central bracket, 5, which laps upon and is fastened to the standards. Near 40 the front of each shelf is formed a groove, 6, which is adapted to receive the edge of a sweeper-case and support it, in conjunction with the standards, in a reclining position, which is best adapted to exhibit it. Each 5 shelf at is of such length as to afford secure support to the sweeper, and of such width as to give it substantially the position shown in Fig. 2. The display-stand may be supported by'a base, composed of brackets 7, connected by the cross-brace 2 and by a bar, 8, and these brackets may be so formed as to furnish a convenient support for the handles of the sweepers. These brackets may, however, be placed at the top of the standards instead of the bottom, or, if desired, at any intermediate 5 5 point, and in such construction the stand may be either attached to the wall or supported in any other suitable manner. The shelves 4 being attached upon both standards, a space is afforded between for an advertising-plaque or a show-card, 9, which may contain any matter suited to the purpose.
In Fig. 4 of the drawings I have shown the stand having the rack for the handles at the top instead of at the bottom, as in Figs. 1 and 2.
The advertising matter, instead of being displayed within the space between the sweeper, supports, as shown, may be applied to or mounted upon any other part of the displaystand.
What I claim is- 1. A display-stand for carpet-sweepers, consisting of uprights supporting shelves upon which the sweepers are mounted, a suitable rack for the detached handles, and an advertising-plaque or show-card displayed between the uprights, substantially as described.
2. A displaystand for carpet-sweepers, composed, essentially, of uprights having shelves 230 which are grooved to receive the edge of the sweeper-case, a rack for the handles, mounted upon one end of said stand, and an advertising-plaque or show-card arranged between the uprights, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHAS. B. JUDD.
