((1 211-463) The present invention relates to a clothes display stand, and has for an object to provide a stand of this character having a rotatable rack upon which a large number of articles of clothing such as ladies dresses, mens suits, and the like may be supported compactly within a relatively small space, and dis-played in such manner that all of the garments are individually visible and may be individually removed and replaced without disturbing the other garments. A further object is to provide a stand which will support a great number of garments in classified arrangement, .i.e., certain garments having common characteristics may be grouped in separated relation from other groups. For example, garments of one type, one color, or one size may be displayed in a single group to facilitate selection by a customer. A further object is to provide means for holding indicia price cards or the like related to each group.

Another object is to provide a stand having a rotatable head including a circular rim upon which a plurality of clothes supporting rack arms are removably supported so that any desired number of arms may be engaged thereon, thus permitting variation in the spacing of the arms to accommodate garments of greater or less bulk. A further object is to provide improved clamp means by which the arms may be rigidly connected to the rim of the rotatable head and at the same time may be quickly and easily engaged with or removed from the rim.

Other objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it will be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings and particularly to FIGS. 1-3 the clothes display stand, according to the exemplary embodiment of the invention illustrated therein, comprises a base It) having a plurality, preferably four, of footed legs 11 radiating from a central hub 12 in the upper end of which there is fitted a flanged bushing or base cap 13 engaged by the lower end of a tubular post 14, the upper end of which is engaged with a flanged bushing or top cap 15. A center shaft 16 within the post 14 is engaged downwardly through the top cap 15, the base cap 13, and a flanged washer or bottom cap 17 engaged in the lower end of the hub 12, the shaft being provided near its upper end with a cross pin 18 seated in a diametrically extending groove 19 in the upper side of the top cap 15, its lower end portion which projects downwardly from the bottom cap 17 being threaded as at 2% and engaged by a nut 21. Tightening of the nut draws the cross pin 18 into the groove 19 and draws the bottom cap 17 against the lower end of the hub 12 so that the post 14 is thus rigidly connected .to the base 10. The upper end portion of the shaft 16 extends above the top cap 17 and constitutes a fixed spindle 22 for the rotatable head 23.

The head 23 is of generally wheel-like form and comprises a central hub 24 which has rotatable bearing engagement with the upper side of the top cap 17 and is preferably provided with a tubular bearing insert 25 of wood or other suitable material rotatably engaged with the upper spindle end 22 of the shaft 16. A plurality of radially extending equally spaced spokes 26, preferably four, extend outwardly and upwardly from the hub 24 and are integrally connected at their outer ends to the inner wall of a circular rim 27. The spokes are each provided upon the inner wall of the rim adjacent its upper edge with a lug formation 28 for positioning one of the clothes supporting arms as will presently more fully appear, and centrally between each of the spokes the rim is provided with a lug formation 29, similar in shape and function to lug formations 23, for positioning additional supporting arms.

The cross-sectional shape of the rim 27 as shown in FIG. 11 is defined by the outer and

30 and 31, an outwardly disposed convexly curved annular top surface 32, blending with the upper edge of the outer cylindrical wall 30, and an inwardly disposed beveled annular lower surface 33 blending with the inner cylindrical wall 31. The purpose of this cross-sectional shape is to facilitate the engagement and disengagement of the arm members and enable them to be rigidly clamped to the rim.

Each arm member 34 comprises a clamp part 35, an indicia card receiving part consisting of a pair of laterally spaced uprights 363 integral with the upper side of the clamp part and having vertical grooves 37 in their opposed inner sides, and a rack arm part 3%; integrally connected with the forward side of the clamp part and extending at a downwardly and outwardly inclined angle therefrom.

A series of saw-tooth formations 39 are provided in the upper edge of the rack arm part 33 and constitute a downwardly stepped succession of retaining notches, each adapted to receive and support the hook of a conventional coat hanger. At the loawer end of the arm there is provided a ring or loop formation 49 which may be engaged by a finger to facilitate manipulation of the arm member and may also serve to receive the hook of a coat hanger; The arm members in the illustrated embodiment of the invention arepreferably provided in two lengths, so that when desired the four shorter arms may be mounted upon the rim of the rotatable head at equally spaced points and the four longer arms may be mounted midway between the shorter arms, as clearly shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. The saw-tooth formations 39 of the longer arms are preferably the same in number as those of the shorter arms, but of greater length, so that in this manner the coat hangers engaged upon the alternately arranged longer and shorter arms will present less like lihood of interference with each other. However, the arm members may be supported in any suitable arrangement depending upon the requirements of the user, and in the case of very bulky garments alternate arms may be removed to provide greater spacing between the arm members.

The clamp part 35 comprises a vertical wall 4-1 preferably of generally V-shape, a pair of laterally spaced hook portions 4-242, extending rearwardly from the upper end of the wall 41 and defining a lug receiving recess or pocket 43 between them, and a lip portion 4 projecting rearwardly from the lower end of the wall 4-1 and provided with a vertically adjustable thumb screw 45 having a conical end. The inner surface of the wall 41 is concavely curved or recessed as at 46 to substantially conform to or provide a clearance with respect to the outer cylindrical wall 3% of the rim portion 27, so that in the clamped relation with the rim the inclined inner edges 47-47 of the downwardly inclined sides of the wall 41 will firmly engage the cylindrical surface of the rim, these edges 47 as clearly seen in FIG. 7 being slightly curved to conform to the curve of the diagonal line of contact therewith across the cylindrical surface of the rim. In practice the curved or recessed surface 46 has a radius less than the radius of the outer surface 30 of the rim so as to insure firm engagement of the edges 4 7-47 with the rim with a slight clearance between the surface 46 and the rim.

The arm members are adapted to be engaged with the rim as seen in FIGS. 9 and 10, the hook portions being first engaged over the upper end of the rim at each side of the positioning lug 23, and whereupon the arm is swung downwardly to bring the lip 44 beneath the rim. Thereupon the thumb screw 45 is screwed upwardly to wedgingly engage its conical end with the inwardly disposed beveled lower surface 33 of the rim as seen in FIG. 10, in which position the hook members are firmly engaged at their outer extremities with spaced points of the inner wall 31 of the rim, and the inner edges 4747 of the wall 411 are firmly engaged with the outer wall 3% of the rim. The arm member is thus rigidly clamped 'to the rim of the rotatable head member is radial relation therewith. The outwardly disposed curved upper surface 32 of the rim provides clearance to enable the clamp part to be swung into and out of place in the manner illustrated in FIG. 9.

The major parts of the display stand of the invention may be constructed of light weight material, for example cast aluminum, thus providing an attractive stand which is both sturdy and light weight. The easy assembly and dissassembly of the parts enables the stand to be compactly packaged for shipment or storage.

What is claimed is:

1. A display stand comprising a floor-engaging base, a vertical post extending upwardly from said base, a vertical spindle at the upper end of said post, a rotatable head member including a central hub engaged upon said spindle, a plurality of radial spokes extending outwardly from said hub, and a circular rim carried upon the outer ends of said spokes having an annular beveled surface at its inner side adjacent its lower edge, and a plurality of rack arm members each comprising clamp means including a vertical wall portion, a pair of spaced hook ineans extending rearwardly from the upper end of said wall portion for book engagement over the upper edge of said rim with spaced points of the inner side thereof, a lip portion extending rearwardly from the lower end of vsaid wall portion for disposition beneath said rim, and

a thumb screw carried by said lip portion centrally between said hook means having a conical end for wedging engagement with said beveled surface of said rim adjacent its lower edge at a point midway between said points of engagement of said hook means, and an arm portion extending forwardly from said wall portion of said clamp means having means for receiving a plurality of clothes hangers or the like in longitudinally spaced relation thereon.

2. A display stand comprising a floor-engaging base, a vertical post extending upwardly from said base, a vertical spindle at the upper end of said post, a rotatable head member including a central hub engaged upon said spindle, a plurality of radial spokes extending outwardly from said hub, a circular rim carried upon the outer ends of said spokes, and a plurality of circumferentially spaced lug projections upon the inner side of said rim, and a plurality of rack arm members each comprising clamp means including a vertical wall portion, a pair of spaced hook portions extending rearwardly from the upper end of said wall portion for hook engagement over the upper edge of said rim with spaced points of the inner side thereof at each side of a lug projection, a lip portion extending rearwardly from the lower end of said wall portion for disposition beneath said rim, and a thumb screw carried by said lip portion engageable with the inner side of said rim adjacent its lower edge at a point midway between said points of engagement of said hook portions, and an arm portion extending forwardly from said wall portion of said clamp means having means for receiving a plurality of clothes hangers in rlongitudinally spaced relation thereon.

3. The invention as defined in claim 2, wherein said rim has an annular bevel surface at its inner side adjacent its lower edge and said thumb screw has a conical end for wedging engagement with said bevel surface.

4. A display stand comprising a floonengaging base, ,a

. vertical post extending upwardly from said base, a vertical spindle at the upper end of said post, a rotatable head member including a central hub engaged upon said spindle, a plurality of radial spokes extending outwardly from said hub, a circular rim carried .upon the outer ends of said spokes having inner and outer surfaces and having an annular beveled surface at its inner side adjacent its lower edge, and a plurality of rack arm members each comprising clamp means including a vertical wall portion having a recessed inner surface defined by side edges adapted to engage spaced points of said outer cylindrical surface of said rim with said recessed inner surface out of contact therewith, a pair of spaced hook means extending rearwardly from the upper end of said wall portion for hook engagement over the upper edge of said rim with spaced points of the inner side thereof, a lip portion extending rearwardly from the lower end of said wall portion for disposition beneath said rim, and a thumb screw carried by said lip portion centrally between said hook means having a conical end for wedging engagement with said beveled surface of said rim adjacent its lower edge at a point midway between said points of engagement of said hook means, and an arm portion extending forwardly from said wall portion of said clamp means having means for receiving a plurality of clothes hangers in longitudinally spaced relation thereon.

5. The invention as defined in claim 4, wherein said side edges of said wall portion are inclined in downwardly convergent relation and are curved to conform to the outer cylindrical surface of said rim.

A display stand comprising a floor-engaging base including a central hub having a vertical passage therethrough, a first flanged bushing engaged in the upper end of said passage, a flanged washer engaged in the lower end of said passage, a vertical tubular post extending upwardly from said base having its lower end engaged with said first flanged bushing, 21 second flanged bushing engaged in the upper end of said post and having a diametrically disposed groove in its upper side, a shaft extending through said tubular post having its lower end engaged through said first flanged bushing and said washer and having its upper end engaged through said second flanged bushing and projecting upwardly therefrom to constitute a vertical spindle, a cross pin carried by said shaft engaged in said groove of said second flanged bushing, a nut threaded upon the lower end of said sha-fit and engaged with said washer to draw said cross pin into said groove and rigidly clamp said tubular post between said first and second flanged bushings, a rotatable head member including a central hub rotatably engaged upon said spindle and having thrust bearing upon the upper side of said second flanged bushing, a plurality of radial spokes extending outwardly from said last mentioned hub, a circular rim carried upon the outer ends of said spokes, and a plurality of rack arm members each comprising clamp means engageable with said rim, and an arm portion extending outwardly from said clamp means having means for receiving a plurality of clothes hangers in longitudinally spaced relation thereon.

7. A display stand comprising a floor-engaging base including a central hub having a vertical passage therethroug-h, a first flanged bushing engaged in the upper end of said passage, a flanged washer engaged in the lower end of said passage, a vertical tubular post extending upwardly from said base having its lower end engaged with said first flanged bushing, a second flanged bushing engaged in the upper end of said post and having a diametrically disposed groove in its upper side, a shaft extending through said tubular post having its lower end engaged through said first flanged bushing and said Washer and having its upper end engaged through said second flanged bushing and projecting upwardly therefrom to constitute a vertical spindle, a cross pin carried by said shatft engaged in said groove of said second flanged bushing, a nut threaded upon the lower end of said shaft and engaged with said washer to draw said cross pin into said groove and rigidly clamp said tubular post between said first and second flanged bushings, a rotatable head member including a central hub rotatably engaged upon said spindle and having thrust bearing upon the upper side of said second flanged bushing, a plurality of radial spokes extending outwardly from said last mentioned hub, a circular rim carried upon the outer ends of said spokes, and a plurality of circumferentially spaced lug projections upon the inner side of said rim, and a plurality of rack arm members each comprising clamp means including a vertical wall portion, a pair of spaced hook portions extending rearwardly from the upper end of said wall portion for hook engagement over the upper edge of said rim with spaced points of the inner side thereof at each side of a lug projection, a lip portion extending rearward ly from the lower end of said wall portion for disposition beneath said rim, and a thumb screw carried by said lip portion engageable with the inner side of said rim adjacent its lower edge at a point midway between said points of engagement with said hook portions, and an arm portion extending outwardly from said wall portion of said clamp means having means for receiving a plurality of clothes hangers in longitudinally spaced relation thereon.

Claims

1. A DISPLAY STAND COMPRISING A FLOOR-ENGAGING BASE, A VERTICAL POST EXTENDING UPWARDLY FROM SAID BASE, A VERTICAL SPINDLE AT THE UPPER END OF SAID POST, A ROTATABLE HEAD MEMBER INCLUDING A CENTRAL HUB ENGAGED UPON SAID SPINDLE, A PLURALITY OF RADIAL SPOKES EXTENDING OUTWARDLY FROM SAID HUB, AND A CIRCULAR RIM CARRIED UPON THE OUTER ENDS OF SAID SPOKES HAVING AN ANNULAR BEVELED SURFACE AT ITS INNER SIDE ADJACENT ITS LOWER EDGE, AND A PLURALITY OF RACK ARM MEMBERS EACH COMPRISING CLAMP MEANS INCLUDING A VERTICAL WALL PORTION, A PAIR OF SPACED HOOK MEANS EXTENDING REARWARDLY FROM THE UPPER END OF SAID WALL PORTION FOR HOOK ENGAGEMENT OVER THE UPPER EDGE OF SAID RIM WITH SPACED POINTS OF THE INNER SIDE THEREOF, A LIP PORTION EXTENDING REARWARDLY FROM THE LOWR END OF SAID WALL PORTION FOR DISPOSITION BENEATH SAID RIM, AND A THUMB SCREW CARRIED BY SAID LIP PORTION CENTRALLY BETWEEN SAID HOOK MEANS HAVING A CONICAL END FOR WEDGING ENGAGEMENT WITH SAID BEVELED SURFACE OF SAID RIM ADJACENT ITS LOWER EDGE AT A POINT MIDWAY BETWEEN SAID POINTS OF ENGAGEMENT OF SAID HOOK MEANS, AND AN ARM PORTION EXTENDING FORWARDLY FROM SAID WALL PORTION OF SAID CLAMP MEANS HAVING MEANS FOR RECEIVING A PLURALITY OF CLOTHES HANGERS OR THE LIKE IN LONGITUDINALLY SPACED RELATION THEREON.
